educating yourself? what books have you found helpful?

One of the most difficult things in life.....reading!
I was the lucky winner of Melissa Orlovs' 'The ADHD Effect on Marriage',
Understand and Rebuild Your relationship in six steps.
First book ever read The Four Agreement's front to back.
2nd book Melissas' book. I finished it in about 4-5weeks,started in June reading when I could....
5 in the am when everyone was still sleeping. I've been accused of hyperfocusing on it!!
Driven to Distraction, Edward Hallowell 3rd book DONE. and now yes you might have guessed I'm onto or into Delivered from Distraction.
I have gone through one heck of a roller coaster of emotions.
It's one thing to accept what you have, its another ut most gut wrenching feeling to be the only one involved in the 'Rebuild' when your the only one with tools for the job.

What books have you read? What books touched/confused/helped you?

I have very limited internet access, so I hope I can still post topics or questions even if I'm not on everyday?

Hi Shelley, you don't have to be on everyday! I am glad you enjoyed Melissa's book as the proud winner of one of our signed book giveaways!! :)

The first book I read was "You mean I am not lazy, stupid or crazy?" and it was an incredible revelation to me that IT WASN'T JUST ME!!

I also really like ADHD Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life.

Without a doubt my #1 is Dr. Patricia Quinn's '100 Questions and Answers about ADHD in Women and Girls'. Perfect format of Q & A, and lots of stuff about how ADHD is manifested in females I have yet to see anywhere else. Gave my the courage to battle the school who didn't believe my 'perfect' daughter could possibly have ADHD, and helped me realize months later that it wasn't a breakdown I was having, it was ADHD overpowering me at the ripe old age of 44 (after taking two coaching courses and getting hubby, son, and daughter diagnosed). ADHD is a tricky d*** thing and this book is tops!!!

i love a.d.d. and creativity by lynn weiss...  its my bible for being adhd, artistic, creative..  so positive and uplifting

also "a.d.d. and success" by lynn weiss..(stories about adhd's who were able to be their unique selves and be

happy and fulfilled..  also love "the gift of adult adhd" by lara honos webb...  excellent.... learning how to focus

on our adhd strengths...

My all-time favorite is "Your Life Can Be Better" my Doug Puryear, MD.  It is written in a very easy-to-read style by a doctor who has ADHD.  The book is full of practical tips without lengthy scientific explanations about the hows and whys of ADHD.
