Anything & Everything ADHD

neurologist or psychiatrist? which one to choose?

Lately, I have been thinking of getting a new doctor to treat my panic attacks. I think they may be adhd related but am not sure. I have had two psychiatrists that didn't help me and I am just out cash because I don't have a good mental health plan.

With that said, I found a neurologist that can treat adhd and anxiety but feel weird not going to a psychiatrist. Any thoughts? I can just pay for the neurologist with a regular copay.

BTW, I'm thinking about the same thing for my kids but am extra worried about that because when it comes to kids, I need the doctors to write letters, send questionnaires to school for diagnosis etc. would a pediatric neurologist do all those things? and do it quickly?

Neurologists are qualified to evaluate and treat individuals with mental health concerns. I would definitely look into having the neurologist write necessary letters to the school and fill out any forms that make it helpful to have your kids treated correctly.

That could be very fortunate that you only have to pay the copay and not some huge amount of money. I would give the neurologist time to see how it goes with him and not worry that he is not a psychiatrist. Perhaps, he is willing and very capable of treating the ADHD condition and the anxiety? Good luck and let us know how this turns out for all of you.
