I am currently in college. I am pursuing my PhD in Financial Management. I go online which worked best for me at least.

I would just like to share with everyone returning to college that it takes perseverance plus a positive attitude to succeed. I attempted college many times over the past thirty years and did not do well. I was unaware of my ADHD so that probably played a role as to why I was unable to succeed. I just completed my second term and will start the Summer term soon. Fear of failure was another reason for not returning. I could not let my ADHD son who is 13 years old see me fail either. Our kids watch us more than ever listening to us. It is very important that every evening you do a recap of your day and plan for the next day. If you don't plan than you can plan to fail. The time is now as none of us know what the future holds for tomorrow.

It all began with procrastinating. Each class that went by, my assignments were turned in later and later. Now I haven't done anything in weeks. This usually how it goes, no matter how much I want something. I have accomodations. I got on medicine.

Why do I always do this? I can't give this up. I'll let down my family and my future. I need a mentor and some motivation. Anyone know how to get (and keep) either?? I go to school online so it's hard for me to develop a relationship with my teachers or classmates.

you know what's pretty cool is having an instructor who is totally blind. it really gives one a little perspective. she has a braile computer and a guide dog. i also know an instructor who is legally blind, who teaches math. those 2 folk had to overcome a lot in order to go to school.

I'm a sophmore in college and these days i'm feeling pretty pro at dealing with all the ways to make college work for the student from choosing classes with the help of my coach and working the disabilities services system, what i've learned is that help is out there, you just have to be honest with your self and go get it. for a great read about dealing with college and ADD you should check out "learning outside the lines" its full of help and humor from two guys who went from failing in school to graduating from an ivy, this book changed my life

I am currently working on a breakdown of my educational journey. I will put it out later in a discussion. BTW, it is always OK to be a cheerleader. All support is welcome. :)

Is it alright to join the group as a "cheerleader" for all of you dedicated and hard working ADDers? Presently, I have far too much going on in my life so I am not thinking about college, but I will definitely be able to relate since I have already returned to school three times. Here is a "fun fact" about what I am educated and trained to do:
1.) Licensed Cosmetologist/Makeup Artist
2) Certified Medical Assistant
3) Surgical Technician

Now that you know my educational background, please tell me about yours!

I figured that we could all try to help each other with this particular issue.
