I have heard of this book Healing ADD by Dr. Amen , as a matter of fact my mom bought it for me several yrs ago , I scanned through through the book but never really got too deep into it , so there for I'm not sure what type of ADD I am myself .
You can get Dr. Amens ADHD information online. http://www.add101.com/add_types.htm
Based only on the descriptions read hear I have no doubt my daughter and I are both inattentive type. I'm not sure about my son, he seems to fit bits and pieces of over-focused and temporal lobe types and he's got the anger, irritable, extreme oppositon of a ring or fire type.
I guess that's another book I need to get my hands (and eyes) on.
Just as in the old days when I was only Hyper-Kinetic. There were described the many forms of what is now called ADD/ADHD. I seem to remember that in the old days. Colleges wanted the types of hyperkinetic people who had the ability to hyper focus for long periods of time. But since that author coined the very negative phrase ADD/ADHD in the 1980's. Most been can now be labeled as mentally defective.
I wonder if Dr. Amen is using the old hyper kinetic references in his studies. Does he speak of the old term Hyper-Kinetic?
Miss Camille,
I would drop the use of any negative terms in describing yourself. Think about the positive aspects of what you can do better than others instead of getting caught up in how disabled you are or that you are mentally defective. I have lived that life of always being less than, defective, disabled and etc. It is not ever a good thing. Focus on the good things about you and then strengthen the areas that you are weak in. Without medication. You will be a better person for your successful struggles.
I agree John,
WE have a gift we just need to harness it. We can accomplish the impossible if given the opportunity. And proof is those that have done it in the past. Check out this link of famous people who have or are believed to have had ADHD. http://www.adhdrelief.com/famous.html

I read his book . I am still skeptical about the brain imaging really being a reliable way to diagnose ADD/ADDHD and more importantly , the appropriate medication to give a person
I don't think the majority of the ADHD/ADD population developed ADD/ADHD as a result from a major head trauma /injury
