ADDer World Anything and Everything ADHD

Anything & Everything ADHD

I have never hired a professional coach for ADHD before, but if I were to consider hiring a coach, I know that I would want to work with an individual that would be a good "fit" for me. I consider a coach to be like a travel guide who will provide me with a map to help me travel a clear path to reach my destination.

I think that when I am in the process of looking for the right coach for me, I have to consider her personality, her values, her style of overcoming obstacles and reaching goals. In addition, I need someone who I can count on to help me on my ADD journey. Someone who will help me during times of distraction when I am running in the wrong direction because I am off on another tangent of mine. A coach who will be firm, yet sensitive and who will put my feelings into consideration when discussing the details mapping out the best route to take to put me on the correct path.

Much like a vacation, I will need to prepare in advance for my journey by gathering up all of the important items that I will need along the way. Instead of gathering up my sun tan lotion, camera, sunglasses and beach towel for my trip, I will bring my talents, dreams, passions and idea's. Most of all, during this journey, I will need to bring my binoculars so I can see clearly the direction that I am traveling to use my strengths to their fullest potential.

While I am traveling on the pathway to lead me to my new goals, I imagine my coach to be much like a tour guide to show me the correct map, by highlighting the perfect roads for me to take, preparing me for the unexpected potholes in the roads ahead and steering me towards safety to complete my trip successfully.

just like the excitement of arriving at your vacation destination, I will experience the excitement of achieving my goals. Once I accomplish what I set out for during this rewarding journey, it will be a path worth traveled. My coach will have completed her job as my official tour guide to wish me well saying, "Bon Voyage!"

That's a wonderful analogy, Dana! You've captured the essence of coaching beautifully.
