I got derailed last week. My doctor has taken me off my ADD med (stimulant) b.c my hair started falling out. While I don't want to be bald and thus prefer to stay off the medicine, it really allowed me to concentrate. I'm finding that not having it interferes a great deal with being able to do my schoolwork. Ideas?

I'm not quite at the doctoral dissertation level yet. However, I am in the process of attempting to complete my synthesis/thesis for a Master of Arts in Critical and Creative Thinking. The bulk of my research and writing focuses on my personal journey through life with ADD and my desire to coach and advocate for adolescent males and their families as they navigate a life with ADD. I think a group of this nature will be tremendously helpful.

I love EndNote, and as a student, there is a big discount. Last I checked it is only around $100 for students, either through your own software outlet on campus (some provide it for free, I know Emory University does, though my University doesn't). JourneyEd.com also has a good deal on EndNote for students.
I'll check into the other books you recommend - I have Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day, but I admit to not looking at it in quite a while - I'll revisit it today!

Jacquelyn - I would love to figure out a way to keep each other motivated and on track, either through this forum or email or messages on our own pages. Maybe we could start a "Discussion" in this group? Just let me know which you would prefer. I definitely fell off the wagon this summer, and am ready to get back on track!

Supposedly helpful books (not specific to ADDers):

- Writing your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day
- The Clockwork Muse
- Writing the Doctoral Dissertation

Online research/org tools that may be useful:
Zotero (www.zotero.com)
Endnote (a software package for sale, mostly for bib help) (www.endnote.com)

If anyone knows of others, please let me know!

All,

Somehow I fell off my study wagon. I'd been on a roll, so I'm quite upset with myself. Though it would sound strange to others, it may be the same for you that when my research/writing aren't going well, I feel badly about myself, guilty, etc. Generally, I feel bad in my life. That is a set up for nothing positive to occur.

Liz,

I am totally interested in incorporating room in this forum for helping one another stay motivated and accountable. *I* certainly need it! If that's not possible, send me a message and we'll exchange email addresses.

Hi everybody - I'm new to ADDer World, and excited to find a grad student group! I'm a grad student in wildlife ecology. I'm done with classes, and about half way through the research. The fun part of being in the field is over with, and now I'm faced with repetitive lab work, and finding it difficult to focus and stay motivated. I've decided to switch to a different focus after I graduate that doesn't involve the lab work (I was diagnosed with ADHD during grad school, or maybe I would have thought this through a little better before I got started). For now I just really need to complete the research and write my dissertation. Is anybody interested in using the discussion board on a regular basis to keep other motivated and accountable for research and writing progress? Or if only a couple of people are interested, maybe we can exchange email addresses?

Just beginning my research and dissertation on Adult Writing and ADHD, While my professors set deadlines for work due every 3 months or so, I make study goals for the day each morning when I wake up. I maintain accountability by telling my encouraging friends my goals for each week, and they check with me to make sure I'm keeping with my plan. When I need help organizing my work, I ask a writer friend to read and offer suggestions.

How's everyone doing I hope everyone is still sticking to there goals. I'm about to start the research and dissertation phase of my PhD now so I will definitely be busy soon. Just wanted to make sure everyone else is doing ok.

Hi all, I just read your posts. My way of doing it is by partializing the work. I make a list of all the parts of the work with intermediate deadlines and this works for me.
