I have just started reading this book. I am through the first couple of chapters. I have found it very enlightening. It traces the origins of the ADHD gene and symptoms through history. It talks about hunters and gatherers, why ADHD traits developed and how they were and are a needed and beneficial part of society.
I am very interested in this book by Thom Hartmann. I am currently reading "Healing ADD", which he also wrote. It has taken me a while to get through it, but it is very enlightening so far.
There may be some confusion on this title. Amazon shows it co-authored by Hartmann and Palladino. I'm currently perusing Ms. Palladino's 2007 book "Find Your Focus Zone" that is also a good read so far. In her bio on the back flap, she has credit for "Dreamers, Discoverers, and Dynamos: How to Help the Child Who Is Bright, Bored, and Having Problems in School" (formerly titled "The Edison Trait"). It would be interesting to see how close the two books match up. In fact, Amazon shows "Dreamers, Discovers...." in their "related books" on the same page as Hartmann's "Edison Gene". I would think Ms. Palladino's rewrite would have to be far enough removed to avoid copyright infringement.
Also, regarding everyone being on the same book as suggested by KellyO. Member Tara McGillicuddy (www.taramcgillicuddy.com) authors her own weekly ADHD Newsletter (news@supportforadd.com). Part of the overall program is a ADDBookClub where two ADHD coaches take one book per month and review it via weekly national teleconference calls. During the calls, the lines are opened up for coaching and discussion with readers. Past teleconferences (unsure how far back) are available as MP3 downloads. When I first looked at this, the cost was prohibitive at $77/mo (which did not include the cost of the book). The price is now down to $27/mo which is a little more reasonable.
Bryan, the above site contained several links but none to your page. I know you received a good response when Keath Low mentioned your site on About.com. i don't know if Tara would (or legally can) give you a plug but it might be worth a shot to share resources. Especially if they can pick up a potential target audience of 400+ members for their BookClub and other services.
Hi Kevin, that's interesting about the two books! By the way, Tara just gave us a plug this last week on her personal blog! She's great and posted about us without any request :-)
Would you mind telling me about the main points of the book "Edison Gene"? There is so much more practicle information that I need to deal with right now but am very curious about this book. Thank you.
