Anything & Everything ADHD

Hello all! I am so glad I found this group! I have been playing with language for what seems like forever (I actually wrote poetry for fun in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL), but it has been mostly on an "as bored" or "as inspired" basis. I am now starting to take my writing more seriously, and originally envisioned sticking with poetry/songs and stories of some kind (either short or novel-length).

A friend of mine who I consulted for advice was participating in an online Script Event called "Script Frenzy" where one writes 100 pages of script(s) in the month of April. At first I said "yeah, right" and then decided "why not?" (mind you, this was April 11th). While I fell far short of that goal, I have managed to finish over 1/2 of the first draft of my first ever play. I have found that it is easier than I thought it would be -- perhaps it's because I tend to be overdramatic and talkative (woohoo ADD), I don't know.

In any case, has anyone else here tried the theater route? If so, what has your experience been?

Hi Lindsay! We have something in common.....Both of us wrote poetry for fun in elementary school! Also, I am over dramatic and very talkative. Did you ever get into trouble at school for talking too much? I always got into trouble for talking too much in the classrooms. Once when I was in 8th grade, my history teacher literally paddled me in front of the class because I got caught talking during his lecture. I was wearing a dress and I was humiliated! I was so embarrassed that I spent the entire day in the nurse's office to escape the jokes floating around the school about me getting paddled for talking in class. Am I so glad that those days are behind me!

The Script Frenzy sounds very interesting. I give you much credit for taking the initiative to start something new and to write your first draft! That is so wonderful! High fives to you! Try not to be hard on yourself for not completing the entire 100 pages of your script. Keep in mind that you began on April 11th, instead of the very beginning of April. Regardless that you did not complete the goal for a possible deadline, it is so very exciting that you did finish over 1/2 of the first draft of your first play! Congratulations!

I have never tried the theater route and I do not know anything about writing scripts. It sounds like so much fun, but I am sure it involves much work. Have you ever tired acting for theater? Your personality may be perfect for the stage! (Nothing wrong with having fun with drama!)

Do you mind sharing about the main theme of your script? Is it a drama, comedy, romance, horror or an adventure? If I were to write a script, I think that I would enjoy comedy. The saying is that laughter is the best medicine. I do believe that seeing the humorous side of life helps us to lighten up and enjoy life!

Did you have to submit your script by a specific time? Did you submit any of it, yet? Best wishes on writing your first script. I look forward to hearing more about it! Keep on keeping on because this is a terrific accomplishment!
