About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?

I am 49 years old. I found out 2 years ago that I have ADD. I cannot take stimulants because it gives me a rapid heartrate. I am still searching for the correct type of medicine that will help me and not hinder me.

Yes, I had some negative side effects to many medications, too, so I understand the frustration. Do you have a cardiologist or a doctor who is able to discuss what is best for you? If you have any form of heart condition then I would suggest to not use stimulants of any kind because they do cause an increase in heart rate. My daughter has mitral valve prolapse so she is not able to take any stimulants for ADD. Right now, we have not taken any medication at all to treat the ADD. There are many great websites that have wonderful alternatives for ADHD. Have you looked on the internet or checked out any good books? Perhaps, you can check your local library? I have blogged about a few ingredients and products that I feel work well for ADDers. I am not sure if anyone can find my older blogs, but that is where it would be. I am not a doctor so I am not saying that all herbs or supplements are better than medication. What works for one individual may not always work for another since our bodies are completely different.

Ritalin was a complete nightmare, but Strattera did help with focusing. The downside was that I felt much more depressed so I discontinued the medication and decided to go a more natural direction. There are pro's and con's with both traditional medication and alternative medication.
