Good morning Bruce! How are you doing? HAPPY MONDAY TO ALL OF US STEELERS FANS!!! Wow! What an exciting game that was last night with the Cardinals! For a second, I was really getting scared...... But as usual, the Steelers stepped it up a notch and made another victory! Pittsburgh is definitely celebrating today!

Hi Bruce,
I was told I was 'off the charts' with my ADD - not diagnosed till I was 51. The woman who tested me said that if I didn't have a high IQ I wouldn't have gotten through school. I am also interested in the ways I've learned to compensate when I didn't even know I had this going on. I know that in college ( I got a BA in 2006 - my AA was from 1976...long time ago) I had to hear the lecture, then I took copious notes - I do this at any meeting just about - just a habit I thought. Now I know that I did that to stay focused and pay attention. I'd like to find out more about those habits and detours I learned in order to function in the world. I am also interested in getting to know everyone on here. This is a wonderful resource!

Hi! Yes, focusing on coping strategies for ADHD is so helpful and necessary.
I think that needs to be my focus, too, as I am still challenged with ADHD.

Have a wonderful week and take care!

Hi Bruce! I read your article on the top ten articles on ADHD. I decided to comment here, instead of on the post. I think that you did a very good job explaining the pro's and con's, it was very informative and helped me decide on which one would even be worth checking out. You were absolutely right in saying that EDUCATION on ADHD is the KEY. I whole heartedly agree with you! From my own personal experience, it was during my early days of reading about ADHD for my son, when I began to suspect that I could have undiagnosed ADHD. Adult and children who have ADHD may have similarities, but at the same time, there could be many differences, due to the age difference. Also, I believe that there is a subtle difference in how males versus females behave with ADHD and how each may struggle with their own set of "gender" issues. Possibly, females suffer in a unique way, due to female hormones, which compound an already challenged condition?

A correct diagnosis by an expert who specializes and is trained in ADHD is necessary. Everyday, it appears that more & more adults are getting diagnosed with ADHD and finally coming to grips with all the personal, professional and academic challenges that they have struggled with their entire life.

While there are many helpful and thorough books published about anything and everything to do with children and adults with ADHD, I wouldn't be surprised if many more new & creative books come out on the market to tackle subjects that have not been tapped into, yet. Another thought, wouldn't it be interesting and entertaining for more fiction books to be published for individuals to not only be able to relate to the ADHD characters, but to learn how others deal with ADHD symptoms to lead productive lives?

Profile Information

Assisting Each Other Means Getting Past Stories

ADHD education is expanding and coming into its own. ADHD education is still in its infancy. Many psychiatrists are focusing research and writing on proper diagnosis. Many people with ADHD are focusing on telling their personal stories. Writing about proper diagnosis can assist in lowering the number of false diagnosis. Telling our personal stories can help educate the general public on what ADHD feel like. Neither does much to assist people with ADHD. As much focus should be placed on coping me… Continue

Our minds

Like many of us with ADHD, I am fascinated by large challenges. My mind naturally gravitates to problems that are not easy to solve or to which we may never know the answer. I think that is partly why I see my ADHD diagnosis as a positive thing. It gave me a very large challenge to work on.

Over the last few months I have been keeping a daily journal. Each week I review this journal to see what I could be doing differently, better, where I mess up, etc. I have noticed an interesting pattern. Wh… Continue

Daily "Dumbass"

A local radio station runs "Daily Dumbass" on their website. I had to post this one:

"A robber in South Jordan, Utah, was in the process of rummaging through a house when the residents returned. In a rush to escape, he left his wallet and ID at the scene of the crime. Why did he have his wallet out? Well, while in the house he tried to access porn sites from their computer and also called a few 1-900 sex numbers, using his own credit card. Yet another reason to keep it in your pants…"

I wonder… Continue
