WACKY ADHD MYTHS & MISCONCEPTIONS....

I'm a strong auditory and kinesthetic learner....but really I wonder how much of even that is influenced by the brain chemistry that makes me ADHD. Visual learning tends to be much more passive than…

WACKY ADHD MYTHS & MISCONCEPTIONS....

As a kid I couldn't sit still (in reality, probably focus) long enough to read a book, I remember even as young as 10 or so figuring out that if I walked around my yard as I read, I could read the bo…

DO ADDER'S EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM FAMILY, FRIENDS OR SPOUSES?

Hmmm....I have all these structures to keep myself on-track for work/school, but my home-life is often a wreck organizationally (both space and time). I live by myself so my chaos isn't inflicted on…

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT ADHD?

Dana, I don't dispute anything you're saying as far as how the workplace looks at ADHD (although legally, we do have the same protections). I don't know that I would easier on myself if I had a phys…

I guess I can see how both those things can still be true. Folks can accept my ADD....but still be ticked when I'm late. It's not really fair for me to say that they don't get to be ticked when my actions impact their life. If I was late because I w…

There's no reason to think that all ADHD folks have the same learning styles. I can be an auditory learner and you can be a visual learner and we can both have ADHD.

Interesting comments TIa, I'm actually a bit opposite of you (and AHDH combined type). I'm a strong auditory and kinesthetic learner, and weak visual learner. I can remember anything I hear.....but have a hard time figuring out what I'm supposed to…

Hi Mike, I headed back to college (and I'm the ripe age of 40)....hopefully, I'll graduate June 2011. I was a MESS in school the first time though....everything you listed and more. School is SO different this time around. I actually have a 4.0 af…

I totally agree with you Mike. The only way I can get things done (reading, studying, writing papers, etc) is to have music piped into my ears (not even good enough to just have it on, I need to have it piped in my headset ). I've been doing this a…

Hmmm....I don't know that there's one answer to this. I know for me, it has to be challenging, otherwise my brain turns right off (I always joke that my brain is backwards, the hard things are easy it's the easy things that are hard: ex Organic Chem…

Organization is generally my biggest bear. My first time through school, I can't tell you how many assignments I did, but lost before I could turn in....or left in a locker, or on the bus, or on the dining room table, or...well you get the idea. My…

Sorry you're going through this, my family didn't react this way to my ADHD....but they did after I moved away and got involved with some great folks at a church I was going to. They did weird and wacky things, like address actions that hurt them, a…

I know what you mean about that ADHD paradox. I've always joked that I have a backwards brain....after my diagnosis, I finally realized I don't have a backwards brain, I have an ADHD brain. It's a brain that can fail a 3 credit first aid class becau…

I'm so sorry that you're having difficulties communicating with your Psychiatrist. I actually don't manage my meds with a pscyhiatrist...I manage them with my primary care doc (but did get diagnosed by a Psychiatrist). Anyway, the point I wanted to…

In spite of the fact that my story's just about opposite of yours, I think I know where you're coming from. I'm 40 andnewly diagnosed, even though I've suspected ADHD from my early 20's when I read a book about it (it was so odd to read the book, re…

Cathie,
Thanks so much for your kind remarks and affirmation about that under appreciated subset of ADHD - it's so common, but so regularly missed as a specific target. I have an article on my website on the Articles link on the subject and the application to the Therapeutic Window that you and your doc were using to get the titration right.
Great to hear things are working well - seems like the medical folk almost always have some glitch with treatment!
