Dear Gary,
Remember - the trajectory of a falling wall may be somewhat slower than the straight vertical drop of a ceiling. Have you considered letting your wife install the drywall and you install the foam? An object in motion tends to stay in m...
Oh, Riri! That terrible feeling, a little panic, a lot of embarrassment, definitely self loathing - I am all too familiar. How many times have I realized I am pushing someone else's carriage in the market-with HER purse in it, get to the front doo...
I took a fear of flying class a few years back because I was extremely fearful about flying (I still don't like t) and needed some kind of intervention in order to take a long , important trip. One of the coping mechanisms they taught was, when yo...
Without a doubt, my stimulant medication affects me differently at various times of the month, and also at different times of the year. During the winter months when I am experiencing symptoms related to SAD-I usually am less sensitive to the meds.
My two boys have exactly the same handwriting, absolutely an undetectable difference! One is more hyperactive, one is more inattentive. They even have a hard time reading it days later, like trying to read notes or decipher a written essay for a t...
Hi Riri!
Things worth doing are rarely ever easy. Someday you'll finish and it will have meaning to you that you overcame obstacles to finish, and that you did it in spite of difficulty. That is a testament to your tenacity and worth. Give yourse...
Looking at that thing made me feel VERY uncomfortable. I could change her direction at will when I focused on it for a minute, but I had a VERY hard time taking my eyes off of it! I would not want to look at it again. The same feeling as when I ha...
Hi Ron - I wish you and your wife continued health and happiness!
I know, my family doesn't "see" it either. Believe it or not, I know many of them are ADD as well and they STILL refuse to try to understand. I guess they think their kids licked i...
For any ADDers who see a counselor or therapist (or have, in the past). Does your counselor or therapist understand your ADD and how it impacts your life?
I, too, have not received much help from the therapy I got, from an 3 times published ADHD specialist non the less. We spent months in therapy to realize that my husband was suffering from depression so the focus had to be on helping him, the more...
I wish everyone did! I think most people do. Its just that we notice when someone doesn't. Wayne Dyer says that you mostly experience the world as friendly or unfriendly-matching your own disposition. I can tell you, I am heartened when I meet a g...
Hi Debbie! Ugh, it can be soo hard for people to understand ADD! Though honestly, until I was diagnosed myself, I didn't really understand my daughter's behaviors at times - until I could see so much of myself in her. You've come to the right place for people who understand - this is a fantastic community of supportive and encouraging folks - glad you're here!
Thanks, Bryan. My family is filled with wonderful people, my husband is by all measures a great guy. I can't understand why they just don't get it. I have tried until I'm blue in the face, to help my kids, my siblings, and have my husband understand how hard I try-all to look like I'm doing it on purpose. Now, after 22 years of marriage, to see him becoming distant with the kids hurts me and leaves me feeling so frustrated. We have individual counseling, family counseling, and it is taking soooo long, and I'm not sure the counselor even gets it. I'm beginning to think that they try, but when your reality is so different than the guy next to you, like being colorblind, coexisting becomes tedious when you have to translate every color you see in the world.
Your welcome and comments are comforting to me. I will get your book soon.
