QUESTION FOR THE DAY....

Wow, Judy, I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. At least for me. I am 25 and have never been married, had a few long-term relationships as a teenager, but have been perpetually single…

That's a good point about personal responsibility and accountability. It is really easy to want to blame one's weaknesses on someone/something else, but at the end of the day, sometimes you really do…

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I was diagnosed with ADHD at 21, in the middle of my second semester, senior year of college. My big brother was diagnosed in grade school and my dad was diagnosed a few years before me, in his early 50s. The final impetus for me to look into it was an episode of Oprah on women with ADHD. I kept thinking (and probably saying, for all I know, at least I was alone...), "hey! That's me!! THAT'S SOO ME!!! Took me a year to find and schedule an appointment with an adult ADHD specialist, surprise, surprise...

I've been on Concerta and then Adderall since, and have been fairly successful, professionally. I work in Finance in a large, international non-profit, And I'm REALLY good at what I do, but I've been doing it for about 2 1/2 years and have been bored for 2 of them. Next step: law school. ;)

Hello & Welcome Emily! You are so fortunate that you discovered that you have ADHD. I bet your dad was surprised to find out he had ADHD in his 50's!

I suspected that I had ADHD after my oldest child was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 4 years old. I was 33 years old and read a book about females with ADHD. As I was reading the book and highlighting anything that sounded just like me, I kept thinking to myself, "How did I go all these years WITHOUT knowing?"

It took me quite a while to find a professional who understood adult females with ADHD. Eventually, I found a very knowledgeable professional and I was diagnosed with ADHD. Early on, I attempted stimulant medication, but Ritalin was an absolute nightmare for me!

After going close to 12 years without any medication for ADHD, I finally made the decision this summer to try Adderall. Thankfully, I have responded to Adderall much better then Ritalin.

Ironically, all three of my kids have been diagnosed with either "inattentive ADD" or ADHD. Right now, only one of my kids takes medication for ADHD.

My 18 year old son who consistently took stimulants most of his life has decided to take a break from medication, which I understand. My 14 year old daughter has mitral valve prolapse, which is a minor heart condition, but it is best to not have her taking stimulant medication.

How do you like the Adderall compared to the Concerta? Also, when are you planning on going to law school? What type of law do you prefer to specialize?
