I read too and I have been told if you can read a book, you can't have it. The most common thing I have heard is that if you can focus on something you enjoy, then you should be capable of focusing…

ADHD and Music

It can help, but it needs to be something without lyrics. Lyrics are too distracting. Lyrics that are not in English (the only language I know) can work just as well as no lyrics. I have been experi…

My dreams don't look like other people's dreams. I know each person will have there own unique dreams, but most books on dreams and goals talk about big dreams. It makes me think of the lyrics to Climb Every Mountain "a dream that will take all the…

I have mixed feelings too. Shopping can be difficult for me. I often feel overwhelmed, sometimes even disoriented, in stores, especially if there are lots of people. Noise, movement, too many things to choose from. For myself, I prefer to order most…

I picked up this book and have read most of it. I really like it. It gives practical advice as well as validation. I really saw myself in this book. It is about people who have many interests and often have problems sticking with any one thing. Sh…

I have a tendancy to overthink things. Could this be an overcompensation for being impulsive? I remember when I was young my mother always emphasized thinking things though, looking at all your options, comparison shopping, etc. I wonder if there i…

I don't think you can lump all ADDers together. In addition to ADD, people have different learning styles. Unlike many ADDers I don't learn very well at all from audio learning, but learn well from books. Growing up I often thought I would do much…

I think that my husband and many of my friend have ADD like tendancies. I am not sure if any of them are official diagnosed. There is an unspoken mutal acceptance of fidgeting, doing other things while we talk or play a game, frequent subject change…

I was reading a webcomic today and one of the characters said "risk focuses the mind." I have not heard this before but it makes sense. People tend to be more alert in potentially dangerous situations. So maybe it is something people do be more aler…

I have never been very ambitious in terms of a career. Looking back I wonder how much of that is attributed to ADD. When I went to school there was no such designation as gifted/learning disabled, so I was called "unmotivated." I think to some exten…

Profile Information

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I have the unfocused, easily distractable type with occasional periods of being extremely figity.
The intensity/severity varies quite a bit (from not noticible/easily surpressed to not functioning)
I have learned to compensate fairly well.
I was never officially diagnosed. Not sure I would qualify since most of the time I function reasonably well.

Welcome to ADDer World Ilah. Thanks for joining us and becoming a member of our club. I think many of us find ways to cope and learn to function in ways that we can get by. To thrive though, that's the question... are you thriving?

Nice meeting you!

Hello & Welcome Ilah! I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 33 years old. It definitely explained why I had challenges academically, in the workplace and in relationships.

I think that I have learned how to compensate for my negative symptoms. When I focus on the things that I am more confident in doing then I am better able to accomplish tasks or projects.

There is a wide variety of groups on ADDer World. Feel free to check them out because there is something for everyone!
