Hi there, for some reason I missed welcoming you to the site! WELCOME! I have to have some time to read your education blogs, they sound interesting to me and I have to be careful in my comments on education, because I am very opintionated about how our American system is not doing our kids any favors! It is antiquated, lost, defined by politicians most of the time just like it started in colonial days........ etc........

Do you know how to find former foster kids? My one good foster wants to know how but, isn't having any luck.
I've been fired from a job because I mentioned it to a bosses son. You know, were all criminals and all we want to do is steal. i know a lot of the kids keep it secret.

I'm so sorry you had to endure that. I saw many people doing foster care who had no business in the program, and others who cared so much. It's a hard situation, but one you can use as a benefit for others.

Hi John, I just noticed that your children are home schooled. I have read this is better for children in general and not only those with ADHD. If you have the time, perhaps you can write a blog post about what is involved and how parents can make it work? I am very interested in this, although I do not have children of my own. I remember as a child that when my mother had time to tutor me I did my best.

Thanks!

Bryan

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
In the early 1970's I was diagnosed as an Upper 10% hyper-Kinetic person. Then around ?1981? I became ADHD. Heavily medicated with Cylert and Ritalin. 50mg. of each.
I was so heavily medicated that I barely remember school.
I didn't learn to read until 10th grade when my dad stopped the medication. Yes, I suffered through withdrawal.

Does video Games improve Add/Adhd symptoms?

I have been curious to understand something. I know and am familiar with numerous ADD/ADHD kids. Medicated, Non-medicated, Home schooled and non-home schooled.

All of these kids seem to be able to play video games until the nuclear power plant runs out of energy. It doesn't seem to matter whether they are doing this or not doing that to correct their symptoms.

Can your Add/ADHD child play video games until you have to yank the power cord from the wall? and what kind of video games do you allow… Continue

Positive Surroundings

How do we as parents surround our children with a positive environment? When there is so much negativity that surrounds them everyday.

First.
Look at the term ADD/ADHD. How many negativity words are involved with the description of ADD?ADHD.

Second.
We give our children medications while at the same time we try to be positive in their upbringing. Kids can see through that nonsense. So, why do I have to take these drugs if I am OK, or fine or that there is nothing really wrong with me. The acti… Continue

Individually Prescribed Education

The best education that a child can receive is one on one with a single teacher full time. The relationship that develops between the two can become very close nit. The teacher can create and modify the child's educational requirements and needs very quickly and efficiently. Unlike the public school system that we have today. Which forces a child to adapt to what is offered even though that the child may or may not be ready for it. The child could even be to far advanced for what is taught. Then… Continue

Edjumak8ing ur childs means mo $$$

Why would anybody home school when we already pay for our free education here in the USA through taxes.
Not only do you have to continue paying your taxes you are furthered burdened with investing in more money into home schooling. That is a valid argument unless you have a child that is considered add/adhd or gifted. No matter what flavor your child is. Home schooling may be your only choice. For the parent staying home. It will be more than a full time job.

Expenses, expenses, expenses. !!!!!… Continue

Fun of Education

Today's generation of kids do not see learning as fun. They are so conditioned by their own culture to do as little as possible at school. Of course there are kids who naturally dive into school and are self driven individuals. These kids literally go out of their way to lie to friends about their straight A's. For fear of being called an egghead or worse. Then you have the kids who just don't care what grades that they get. What can you do about your child being amongst all of these different k… Continue
