Kelly,
That is good news! You'll have to let me know all about it afterwards. I am ready for the summer, too...especially since we have a beach trip planned. I love getting to the beach where it is so relaxing. :)

Hey Kelly! :)
Maybe you can find a work out buddy. I actually prefer to work out alone listening to my favorite music...but I know for many people an exercise partner is helpful. Plus, I am usually more motivated when the weather is warm. I don't like the cold and so I get under a blanket instead of outside to exercise!!

We were away for the long weekend at the beach. It was great. Very relaxing. Believe it or not, my kids jumped into the ocean. The water was cold, but the weather was nice. They are like polar bears anyway!

Kelly,
I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. Were you sent to a therapist through your employee assistance program at work. The company I work with is an EAP and you CAN request another therapist. Tell me specifically what you are needing help with. Most therapists do not know the symptoms of ADHD for children or adults. They have a general understanding, however do not know how those symptoms affecting a person in their daily life and their struggles. One of my adult patients recently told me the best line about her ADD. She said it is like having all of the balls in the air and waiting for one to drop but none of them ever do. Like having too many pans on the fire but can't seem to put any of them out. I am uncertain as to the circumstances of what happened with your job, so maybe you could fill me in a little more and I can try to help. Hallowell Center has an excellent reputation so I am thinking you must live in PA or somewhere close by there. Let me know. You should have been able to switch counselors, therapy is about meeting the patient's needs not the therapist's. Blessings, Kara T.

Don't forget a deep inhale and full exhale! :)

Sounds like you are having lots of fun...that is of course important, too. Are you dancing, as well? My Dad was in the best shape of his life when he was dancing.

Hey Kelly,
I am glad you did something fun...plus skiing is great exercise! I agree with you – a helmet is a good idea. I had a friend in high school who wore a bike helmet for playing goalie in soccer. One time when diving for a ball she hit her head on the side goal post...after that she always played with a helmet even as a college player. Hearing of Natasha Richardson’s death was really sad and shocking. Be safe.

I haven’t heard from Liza in a week or two. I’ll have to send her an email. She has been doing okay, but is going through the radiation and chemo and I am sure it is tough…but she always seems so upbeat. She did get the flowers and was very appreciative.

I’ve had a hard time keeping up with ADDerworld, too, recently. Here’s to things slowing down a little so we can both take a breath! :)

Talk to you again soon.

Hi again Kelly. I agree with Kara about seeking "practical advice" rather than mumbo jumbo. The first psychologist I went to was not a fit either. Even though ADD himself, he had not paced himself so was half-falling asleep in our session until he had to excuse himself and go get a soda - the short walk + soda + afternoon med he took right before I arrived kicked in. I thought, how am I going to learn from him? Also he seemed overly interested in digging into my dating life and/or other issues. I was a grad student with horrible writer's block, I wanted practical ideas... closer to "coaching". So it took me a little while but I got the name of someone I knew another student had used. That person also had ADD and turned out to be a great fit. But as a psychologist couldn't prescribe meds so those came from my primary doctor. I hope you are able to find someone you have rapport with, as well as an approach to all this that is a "fit" for you.

Hi Kelly. Thanks for the wall post. I'm not officially living by the sea at the moment (I'm in the Midwest) but grew up in Southern CA - so for now it's more of a state of mind. :)

Hello Kelly! It was nice hearing from you! Did you enjoy your skiing trip?
Wearing a helmet was a good idea! Better safe than sorry, right?

No, I have postponed looking for an ADHD psychologist. I am beginning a fibromyalgia pain management program at a pain clinic starting next Wednesday. It is a six week program with a group of fibromyalgia patients to learn new techniques and skills for reducing our pain, learning new exercises to strengthen our muscles and practicing skills that will help each one of us have a higher quality of life. The program is twice a week for about 4-6 hours each time. I am going to be pretty consumed with this class for the next six weeks so I am just focusing on this for now. However, I will inquire to my fibro doctor if she has ever heard about the connection between ADHD and fibromyalgia.

I have read several different websites that share information about this connection between the two conditions and it is amazing how much they have in common! There are so many similarities! (Brain fog, challenges with memory, concentration, distractions & many more.)
By the way, I read that Adderall is the best drug of choice for treatment for individuals that have both of these disorders. It definitely has me wondering about whether it would help reduce my pain and reduce the combination of symptoms. I will continue looking into this, but will probably not get back to searching for an expert, until my fibro program is finished. (Too many distractions will be too much to juggle!)

The Cymbalta is working out well. My doctor wanted to increase my dosage, but I have had a few side effects when I did that so I went back down to the lower dose. I am thankful for how it has helped the depression 100% and has decreased the anxiety95%! I definitely do not feel that I am in as much pain, either. Something to celebrate!
I am really feeling so much better now that I am on it and I am thrilled to have found something to finally work. Praise God!

So where did you go skiing? Can you believe it, but I never ever went skiing in my entire life. As a teenager, I was too busy chasing the boys and as an adult, I was too busy working, going to school or chasing children! I bet it is exhilarating skiing down a huge mountain or hill! I love fast rides in amusement parks so I am guessing that I would love skiing, too.

Today is beautiful, sunny, warm day in Pittsburgh and it is feeling like Spring has arrived! I love this weather and I am so happy to look forward to this season. Once the tree's turn green and start to blossom little flowers, it will really look like Spring. I can't wait!

I hope that you are enjoying your day and doing well!

Kelly,
I feel bad that you have had little luck in finding a competent therapist to work with you. I am a Christian counselor and I believe this makes a Huge difference. Where are you currently looking for a qualified professional?? Most patients, Do NOT want to hear mumbo jumbo and are looking for practical advice that they can use in their everyday life. Maybe I can help!! I am curious as to what advice they are giving you. Kara T.
