The wonderful book that led me to my diagnosis with ADD is called,
"WOMEN WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER" by Sari Solden, MS, LMFT.
This book was a godsend! By reading all of the different chapters in her book about girls with ADD, teenager with ADD and adult women with ADD, I was able to discover many similarities that I had with the same symptoms. Then I read the self-assessment and was able to pinpoint my specific challenges in life. I had no doubt in my mind that I had ADD, but I knew that I needed to get a professional diagnosis.
In all honesty, getting a CORRECT diagnosis was extremely challenging for me. It took many years of persistence. After experiencing this great obstacle and finally getting referred to a profession who specialized in females with ADD, I would highly recommend attending adult CHADD meetings. By going to CHADD meetings, you will have the opportunity to connect with professionals and individuals who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. By making connections, you can get referred to the right professional who could diagnosis you, if that is what you are looking for.
I wanted to mention, I did not just have one diagnosis of ADD, but I continued through the years to receive a total of three. After three professionals (a social worker, a licensed psychologist and a psychiatrist) diagnosed me with ADD, there is no doubting that this is correct.
I hope this information helps and if you have any questions, feel free to ask! Have a nice day and take care!
