The ideal school/education for the ADDers

This is such a good question! I'm actually struggling with it right now because haven't actually gotten a college degree at think its about time at the ripe age of 30. The catch is, I can't focus i…

What helps you focus?

Dana, laugh Adderall makes me scary focused. I've never actually had a prescription to it but one of my old roomies did and would give me some. I once took one at work, had head phones on and was so…

Now, if only could focus enough to actually start this discussion as I'm doing four things at once! :) (Oh, and I just saw a project I want to finish today so make it 5)! We all obviously have issue…

Is diagnosis necessary?

*falls over laughing* I do the same thing when I'm reading! I also find myself typing similar to that all the time! More so if I'm trying to get ideas across. Each new idea is its own paragraph, even if it is only a very short idea that really on…

I agree with you when it comes to be able to focus. I work from home and I have two cats and a dog. They are very distracting and I find it very hard to focus. Also, because I am home, I feel that have to do some laundry, mop a floor, etc. When I a…

I agree that working in a semi-distractive environment CAN be a good thing. For me, this means having something to entertain multiple senses at once that don't cause me to engage those senses that I am intentionally using. Since that probably made…

I totally agree with you Mike. The only way I can get things done (reading, studying, writing papers, etc) is to have music piped into my ears (not even good enough to just have it on, I need to have it piped in my headset ). I've been doing this a…

How I know I'm totally ADD: I'll go out to my car, unlock the passenger door(I don't have keyless entry), drop some stuff on the seat and purposely hit the unlock button so the driver side door is unlocked. Of course while I'm doing this, I'm thinki…

I wouldn't say I 'hate' furniture. I just don't use it in the conventional way that is uh, acceptable! :P I do the curling one leg up and sitting on my foot thing; I've been known to sit sideways in chairs (back against an arm and legs over the oth…

You know, I've actually been curious about this myself. I've only actually met one other diagnosed ADHD person since I was diagnosed myself and your right we had an instant insane connection. Also, I always find myself gravitating towards people th…

From what I read about ADHD, it is very genetic and if one individual in a family is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD then there is a higher percentage of other family members to have the same condition.

My son was the diagnosed first with ADHD, then I was diagnosed with ADHD, then my youngest daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, then my two nephews were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, then my cousin was diagnosed with ADD and then my middle child was diagnosed with ADD. Isn't it amazing how in a matter of 11 years so many individuals (children and adults) are both cropping up with this diagnosis?

My mom does not want to believe that she may have undiagnosed ADD, but she has numerous symptoms and she can not fool me! Personally, I believe that many adults have misconceptions and crazy idea's about what ADD/ADHD is. Education is definitely a key to coming to terms with what the facts are about ADD/ADHD.

Hello & welcome, Mike! I was 33 years old when I was diagnosed with ADHD. I was not surprised because my oldest child was already diagnosed with ADHD and I had begun learning more about the signs & symptoms.

That was over 12 years ago and since then, I have learned so much more about children and adults with ADD/ADHD. Interestingly enough, all three of my kids have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. There is never a dull moment in our home!
