I did one better, Bryan... my two youngest kids had appointments for their annual checkups a couple weeks ago. I knew that the appointments were coming up soon, but I didn't have it written down anywhere that I could find. So I kept telling myself...

Profile Information

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I was diagnosed with ADHD one year ago, when I went to a therapist because I just "couldn't keep it all together". Thankfully, when I mentioned that my oldest daughter has ADHD, my therapist made the connection and had me take a screening test. From there, I had appointments with a psychiatrist who confirmed our suspicions. I started medication right away, and though I have had to switch meds once, all in all, I have to say I've been lucky to get great results with medication.

Getting my diagnosis has truly changed my life. Over the last year I have been on a wonderful journey of self acceptance and self discovery. I have accepted - embraced, really - everything about my ADHD, positive and negative. I have explored my strengths and I'm continually learning to manage my weaknesses. The most important thing is that I don't see my weaknesses as failures any more - they're just a part of me. I'm finally, after all these years, happy with who I truly am!

My message to everyone is this: No matter how far down you are, no matter how broken you think you are, no matter what your life has been in the past, you can make a positive change for the future! I encourage everyone to embrace both their strengths and weaknesses, and realize that each and every one of us has unlimited potential to succeed - we just need to find our passion!

Oops... I Did It Again

So, that Britney song is playing on the radio in my head...(yes, I'm again without my meds - that's a whole different story)...

So I broke up with my boyfriend last Monday. Typical ADD whirlwind relationship... I was a couple weeks out of my last relationship, the 4 year one... when I reconnected with someone I went to HS with. We didn't know each other really in school... but he asked me out, and we went out on a date... which was cool, and fun... and in SOOO typical ADD fashion, I invited him… Continue

Never ceases to amaze me...

... how someone in the mental health medical profession can know so amazingly little about ADHD. After waiting over an hour to see my p-doc today for a meds checkup, I was shuffled over to the nurse-practictioner. First of all, I'm annoyed that I took off from work early to make this appointment, only to have to wait for over an hour. Then, as soon as they tell me this NP will see me instead, I think, "Great. Now I have to go through the whole story AGAIN." I'm not really sure why those drs make… Continue

Do we give ourselves enough credit?

I recently had an experience that reminded me of how I always react when someone praises something I've done, and it makes me wonder if this is something that others have experienced as well...

My good friend was re-doing his website (he has a small startup company), and mentioned he was having trouble writing his bio for the site. (It's hard to write your own bio!) So, I told him to send me what he had... and yeah, it needed some work, lol! So I rewrote it, sent it to him... and he was over-th… Continue

Becoming more open...

The strangest thing happened to me today.

I was talking to one of my friends at work, someone I'm fairly close to, but still... a coworker. I don't even remember how we got on the topic, but I wound up just saying, "Yeah, I've been so exhausted in the afternoons - I'm trying to stretch my meds because I'm going to run out before my next appointment, cause I missed the last one. " Mind you, I've never told him outright that I have ADHD, though I've hinted around at it, I guess, in a roundabout w… Continue

When it rains...

...it pours.

And when it pours, my ADD is so difficult to manage. This last week or so has been intensly difficult. My family suffered an unimaginable tragedy a little over a week ago - my almost 12 year old nephew was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle and was killed instantly. In one instant, our lives changed. My brother and sister-in-law lost the light in their worlds, and my daughter lost her best friend - her cousin, who she was to have been spending the week with this week, fixin… Continue

Belatedly bowing out of your request to join the Coaching Group, I just don't have the time to be a good partner there, but appreciate your asking.

Hi! I wanted to share with you that I have made some progress with having my articles published. Are you ready for some exciting news?
I submitted five articles to an online women's magazine in May. The editor recently contacted me to inform me that she has accepted all five of my articles and she will be publishing them. The bonus is that I am getting paid for writing these articles! I am thrilled about all of this and it is an accomplishment that is so exciting!

I am praying that you and your family are doing well. Best wishes with your coaching opportunity and take care!
