I've not read the book, but have read my share of these genre of books like Thom Hartmann, which include various topics such as depression, ADHD, time management, etc. BTW, my lastname is Hartmann, but not aware that I'm in any close relations to ...

I haven't read any books on the Hunter(Grazer) vs Farmer(Gatherer) theory yet but I have done some research online about it. I actually agree with it; mainly from things I've had happen to me in my personal life. Just as an example, I live in the...

I think that nothing persists in nature unless it has some use. Some things might become unecessary, while others become more necessary and become selected out over time. It is useful to think of ADD/ADHD in this way for me because it takes the c...

I agree about ADDers being hunters, not farmers. But we still need the hunters!! There would be no innovation without ADD traits in my view. All progress and creativity involves rist and free thinking - which ADDers have in spades. He is talki...

I think it is true, and I am an example of it. I think most of us are. We have too much 'at once' processing ability in our brains. We don't like it when things are too slow and predictable. We have split-second 'moments of clarity'. We thrive on ...

I haven't been really successful in explaining it to anybody cause people turn out. ADHD has a bad rap. I've heard it called the disorder of a lack of morals, as well as, a disorder of no connection. Ooch, cause the last one really speaks to me. ...

I did not read the book, but I did some reading online about the hunter vs. farmer theory. I guess it's just a way of looking at ADD, and perhaps the theory in itself could be a coping mechanism. As far as I can tell right now I think it's good to...

I have not read the book. But, Have thought about the premise. The farmer will spend his life thinking about what he must do in an organized step by step approach. Which he may organize in a specific order of importance. The farmers attention and ...

I haven't read that book and, I must admit that sounds a lot like tough love. I would have to read it to really get a perspective as to what he is referring too. If what your saying is accurate that does indeed sound a bit insensitive and from the...

The book I'm reading is ADD Success Stories. I don't know why it irritates me so much... It just seemed like he kept bringing up how people with ADHD want to think of themselves as victims, and there's a chapter called "Professional Victims" or so...

My nieces are still little so I don't have first-hand experience with this. However, I am a babysitter on Sitter City, and I have seen a lot of parents of older kids putting up ads for a "Babysitter." For people with older kids, its not so much a ...

What I've always done is NOT mentioned it during the interview. You're not legally or morally obligated to mention it. If you think you can handle the job, then there is no reason to tell them about your ADHD. Usually when I get to know my co-work...

Hi Nicki, I am currently re-reading The Edison Gene by Thom Hartmann and I've always found it fascinating. While there are aspects that may at this point be a tad dated, overall his text pointed to each individual reaching an acceptance and perhap...

Halo Nicky,
You're most welcome! I'm glad that I could help a bit. If you still feel miserable about being 30 or about anything else, feel free to send me a PM. It may take a while before you finally able to see the fun of being 30. We all can connect with you because we understand what you've been facing. And keep the child in you! It's really fun to be childlike when you grow up.

Hello Nicki! Nice meeting you on ADDer World! I will have to check out your blogspot. I have two different blogspots.

As far as ADHD, I never knew that I had it, until I was in my 30's. I felt like a failure, too. Also, I had been coping with depression. Right now, I am not on any medication for ADHD so there are times I do feel extremely distracted, impulsive, forgetful and unfocused, but I continue to plug along each day doing the best I can.

My one motto is KEEP ON KEEPING ON! With ADHD, that is exactly what I plan on doing. I am hopeful about the future and I am looking up!

Aw Nicki , thank you so for your comment . I don't look at my ADD as a disorder , I look at my ADD as god's wonderful imagine of me . I'll be honest it took me a really long time to see it that way , not to menton it took me a long time to finally be comfortible in my own skin . As a matter of fact it was getting pregnant with my son and his birth and just becomming a mother was the blessing that helped me accept me for who I am . Now there are alot of other things that have happend to me in the last 8 yrs that has helped me accept my ADD as well . Now don't get me wrong I still have my rough days , the fact that I am ADD & I'm in long term comitted relationship with a man who has ADHD is quite challanging at times . I guess you can say that god was the one who helped me name my ADDer world page - simply because that is what he considers me - A Define Diva ( code for my ADD ) .

Making A Sensory Bag

In one of my last posts, I mentioned that I had thought about creating a sensory bag. I thought I'd explain exactly what it is, and what's in it!
Some people with ADHD like to fidget. Other people with ADHD have a lot of anxiety, and still others have different sensory needs. I have all of these! I am a very sensory person. When I was a little kid, I had to touch everything that had any type of texture. At the store I had to feel all of the different fabrics on clothes, especially if they looked… Continue

My Virtual Piggy BAnk!

I think I've mentioned before that of the hugest problems I have with my ADHD is saving up money. It is really hard for me to manage my money, because I often forget to write things down, I forget to pay bills, and I just suck at math in general. It has been extremely hard for me to save up any amount of money! If I have a hundred dollars, I feel like I have a million dollars, and I tend to spend it all!
The other night I went to church with my aunt, and they were talking about money management.… Continue

20 Steps To Straightening A Room... ADHD Style!

(Cross posted from my blog, All Day Her Dreams.)
One of my most severe ADHD features is my disorganization and my inability to focus on trying to get organized. Even though I mostly live with Diana, I still maintain a bedroom at my mom's house, which gets very disorganized during the two days a week that I spend there! If you want an idea of how to straighten a room ADHD style, here you go.

1. Decide to straighten the room, usually because someone els… Continue

Tuning Out And Dropping In

(Some of this post is cross-posted from my blog, All Day Her Dreams!)
I found out about this weekly drop-in center through NAMI DuPage. It said it was a drop-in center for people with mental illnesses (including depression and anxiety, bipolar, things like that...) and when I called to ask about it, they described it as a social group where you could do different activities, arts and crafts, go on outings, etc.

When ADHD Is Sort Of Like Autism

I have severe ADHD, but before I was diagnosed, I thought I had Asperger's Syndrome. I first thought that when my mom and grandmother suggested it, because of my sensitivity to noises, anxiety around crowds, trouble with social skills, etc. I still wonder if I have Asperger's Syndrome, because I have a lot of symptoms of it. When I take those screener questionaires for Asperger's Syndrome such as this one, I usually end up with a… Continue
