Very true, Marline... My kids are also very intelligent, and from a young age have seemingly required that I explain certain things to them seemingly before they could allow themselves to comply. My son in particular enjoys stymieing adults with ...

I agree. I find that in looking to my son when a doctor asks certain questions of me, which I feel should be something he is better able to answer, the doc gets in the habit of trying to include him in the discussion. It also shows the child they ...

Profile Information

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I have ADD. My children have AD/HD... my mom... her dad... his dad...
I am theorizing here, going back some generations, but when I view those family stories through the lens of awareness... I see it quite clearly.

There were struggles in my family going way back. I can look at photos of my grandfather in knee pants in the 1910's -the look on his face, and what I know of him later... it's easy to relate to him and his bewilderment at the difficulties of life, even for a frustrated four-year-old boy in a faded photograph.
There is a quote I love and it is one I originally labeled a photo of my son, aged 4 with Santa...
"I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief" -Gerry Spence

I thought how fitting for so many with AD/HD :)

The Power Tools of ADD Parenting

The following is an article I have written. It's part of a book I am writing on ADHD. Enjoy :)

The Power Tools of ADD Parenting

Need a fresh approach to your child’s ADHD behaviors?

ADD is very challenging for all concerned. These individuals require a wider allowance of time, patience, and humor. These tools will re-energize your approach, get you thinking, and interject a little fun into your relationship with your child/ren. Many of these principles also work well with others in you… Continue

Very good question Renee. I agree with you and don't know exactly why, but, I imagine it has to do with cost and acceptance of ADHD. It will probably still be a few years. Studies like this one are helping, I think:

Hi Renee-Thanks for yours words of encouragement and well wishes, it means a lot to me. Other than my doctor, this group is the first I've told about my ADD and it's my first interaction with others that have it, too. I'm not able to tell anyone about it yet and I have a lot of work to do learning how to manage myself and how to raise two kids with it, too. It isn't easy for me and I feel overwhelmed by all of it. I'm glad I found this site-it is very helpful and I'm looking forward to reading about and hearing from others . Thanks a bunch!

Oh... and I live in South Jersey. (I always say South Jersey because when I say I'm from New Jersey, everyone thinks of the factories and stuff up north!) South Jersey is gorgeous in the fall - and I'm fortunate to be near some beautiful lakes and parks. Autumn is my favorite season to take pictures - I absolutely am blown away by the colors!

Hello Renee! Thanks for stopping by my profile to leave me a comment.
The book that was so very helpful for me in the beginning when I suspected that I had undiagnosed ADHD is called, "WOMEN WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER" by Sari Solden. Even now, I find myself still reading the book because it is so helpful and informative. Sari has her own website, which is www.addjourneys.com and it is very helpful. I actually am due to renew my membership and I have not done it, yet. Looks like I am procrastinating......

Have you tried using natural wellness products or alternatives to medication for yourself or your kids? In my 12 years dealing with kids with ADHD and trying to cope with it myself, I have tried both traditional medicine as well as natural alternatives. There are pro's and con's to both. However, the natural alternatives have the least negative side effects, which is why I am always trying different wellness products for me and my kids. Right now, none of us are on any stimulants for ADHD. My 10 year old is taking a healthy drink called "Attention", which has lots of vitamins, minerals, essential nutrients and essential oils. It helps, but is not curing the condition.
My 10 year old is still challenged with some hyperactivity and focus issues. However, she is very well behaved and easy to tolerate.

I hope that you had a nice weekend. Take care!
