I love your advice and it is so perfect . I have a brother-in-law named scott (no little sibs) who has ADD, is brilliant, has an incredible memory that holds minute details on all kinds of subjects, got a law degree so easily, and does absolutely ...
I think it must be different for ADD/ADHD men and women in regards to relationship problems. Me, personally- I bond very strongly with people, especially women I am romantically attracted to. I can feel a lot of love and romance and it can be very...
Ah Devin, you read Hartmann's book, nice, so did I. It is odd, because I 'intuited' most all of his theory prior to reading the damn thing. And I have the lion's share of sanity, and am sans delusions of grandeur- I really mean that I 'assumed' mu...
Try connecting with a local outpatient mental health center...they might be able to connect you with groups in the community that work with ADHD kids :) I recently visited a mental health peer resource center where I had been asked to speak about ...
Heather,
Your 10 year-old son needs to be challenged, and challenged intellectually, I think. If a child can talk any kind of 'circles around' anyone, wow- that is something the vast majority of kids do not do to adults- and by 'talk' I am assumi...
You all think I'm mad, don't you? Squirrel-nip, loony bin material, hopelessly and quite pathologically insane don't you? :)
Muwahaha, now now, if your ADD is anything like mine, you enjoy that which is hyperbolic, no?
Ah- but a fine madness, th...
Glad to hear it, stay away from endless miles of gray, smoke-belching factories and rows and rows of school desks all the same color and facing in precisely the same direction and you'll be fine.
A bluebird may even fly by, which you should not t...
I'd say it's your brain with it's 'multiple motors', Dana. Feelings come from connecting facts and learned knowledge and such sometimes- seeing patterns in things indirectly as a 'feeling'. Am I making any sense? :) Are you the type that narrowly ...
Really, what I mean is that I should probably be donating my time to motivating and boosting the self esteem of kids with ADHD, but have no idea of how to do it. I am never having kids myself, but I do have a feeling I could motivate and lead ADHD...
The description is quite good, really. 'Externally motivated', I think I may have said that myself before- like doing something is desirable if others are benefiting from/reacting to it. A yawn from others is a death-knell to our motivation, just ...
I sketched it out on paper. It's like having what I call an 'octopus brain'.
Better to describe it like a computer with say- 4- processors instead of the one or two most of the rest have. Thinking ahead is what we do- because we are in fact simpl...
I think it is true, and I am an example of it. I think most of us are. We have too much 'at once' processing ability in our brains. We don't like it when things are too slow and predictable. We have split-second 'moments of clarity'. We thrive on ...
Very interesting Scott! I think I know what you are getting at. I can't say that I can predict things; however, I do seem to have an intuitive kind of sense that gives me a sense of how and why certain things happen. I can 'feel' things better tha...
I don't know where my ADHD starts and ends. I was a prodigy (with words and language) as a child, and was always a 'gifted' kid. I don't really know if it's the ADHD traits that have given my my ability to predict things. Ha- it's not anything I c...
I am a doctorate student at the University of Houston, but I live on a Caribbean island. I work at Ross University School of Medicine; helping medical students (many with ADHD) become doctors.
I am looking for individuals to participate in my research project that seeks to explore the attitudes and beliefs about stimulant medication held by adults with ADHD. I am interested in all views toward stimulant medication.

Hey Scott, welcome to ADDer World! I am like you, in that I am not physically hyperactive, but rather mentally. Thanks for joining us!

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I have had ADD (or ADHD or whatever the hell we're calling it) my entire life. I only realized / was hipped to what ADD actually was (when I was diagnosed) at the age of 34. I wasn't physical-hyperactive, but imagination hyperactive.
