Thanks for the advice.... The quiet room they use is right outside the office and he would be the only one. This would be times where they feel he is getting a bit antzy, and before it gets to wher...

High Five to Teri the MOM too! You stood behind your son and held him up at his lowest points....and will continue to do so! So I feel like a double woot because you both made the honor roll in a small way....right...?

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. My daughter who is 26, has ADD. My son who is 14 has ADHD. I had to fight for my daughter to be in regular school classes because she didn't learn the same as the norm. Now, I fight for my son who is a talented and gifted young man....but listening to the schools.....you would never know it. I feel alone much of the time. Friends say they understand, but they don't really know what I go through on a daily basis dealing with the educational system. Once you are labeled as having ADHD....you acquire many more labels....which only further makes it difficult to fight the system. I have been fighting the system for years....Every once in a blue moon one of the teachers get it....but it is few and far between. I was just told by an administrator today that the school district my son attends lacks the time and resources to deal with kids like mine......ummmmmm. That is most definately not a good thing to say to me!!

Thanks for joining us Teri! Your right, others outsiders just don't get it and they don't get us. I wrote my book for us, but just as importantly with the faint hope that non ADDers would read it too! I think it is awesome that you stick up for your family and learn as much as you can. That's so important. Keep on keeping on and welcome to ADDer World!

Hello and Welcome Teri!

I have three kids diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and I have been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult so I definitely understand the challenges involved in both. When my oldest child was in 3rd grade, the public school attempted to deny my son the right for an IEP with special education.

I knew in my heart that my son definitely had learning disabilities and I fought the school district for one solid year. Thankfully, it paid off in the end because my son received another evaluation from a child psychologist who was in private practice. The psychologist determined that my son did have ADHD, anxiety and learning disabilities.

After a one year battle, my son finally was able to receive an appropriate education with an IEP and special education. He is now in his last year of senior high and has no longer needed an IEP. I am so proud to see my son receiving high honors in school all by himself!!!
