There's no reason to think that all ADHD folks have the same learning styles. I can be an auditory learner and you can be a visual learner and we can both have ADHD.

Interesting. Well, maybe I've never been AD/HD (Inattentive type), maybe I'm just gifted and the reason I didn't pass their so called "IQ" test is because I'm a poor test taker or the test is geared toward only certain types of learners (the types...

Interesting comments TIa, I'm actually a bit opposite of you (and AHDH combined type). I'm a strong auditory and kinesthetic learner, and weak visual learner. I can remember anything I hear.....but have a hard time figuring out what I'm supposed ...

Tia, I am glad you brought up the connection of ADD/HD with giftedness. I beleive there is a fine line between the two. If you search up giftedness, you will find that they have so many things in common that I have wondered for some time that perh...

I completely agree with the Gifted AD/HD issues. If my ADD had been recognized earlier, I probably would have been in the gifted classes where I should have been. I took the IQ test earlier than most at the time (second grade) and missed the gifte...

Hello Mike ! You surely must have interests in life, things or passtimes you like to do (cooking, signing, reading, writing, sports...) or subjects you love to read in the books : it could give you an indication of what you could study at school....

Be proud of ourselves !

Since some time, I notice I have a special temperament by comparaison with the "normal" people (those who don't have ADHD). Indeed, even if I'm distracted, confused, make mistakes, have a loud voice, a loud laugh and a short fuse, I can also be very passionnate about life, have genuine ideas, have big dreams (unrealistics, according to many people around me), be extremely empathetic and have a lot of fun with children, especially with mine (he has about 2 years old). I'm not shy to roll in the g… Continue

Your welcome veronique , I am happy to share some of my trials and tribulations that I have had dealing with my ADD . I know that every ADD/ ADHD person is different , I know that every ADD/ ADHD person handles their ADD/ ADHD in their own way , weather that be medication along with therphy or weather it be educating themselves the type of ADD/ ADHD that they have so they can better understand their own brain , my advice is do what every works for your .

I'm glad you are giving me the opportunity to share my ADD life experiences with you. I wouldn't change my ADD for anything in the world. I've learned so more than normal people and like my special abilities and way of seeing, thinking, and processing things. I'll email you. Thanks, Adrienne

From a very young age I knew that there was something different about myself , as a young child with ADD I did not really truly understand what ADD was @ the time, how ever my mom was always very open with me , telling me that just because I was ADD I was no different from anyone else accept for the fact that my brain was wired differently . Essentaually she always told me that the reason why god made me ADD was simply because he made me a bit more special , compared to everyone else - she also implamented into me that just because I was ADD & my brain was wired differently compared to everyone else , that I was in no way less smarter than everyone , that I could do anything that anyone else could , it just took my brain a little longer to process information . I was diagnoised @ a very young age of 5/6 , the Dr that I went to Dr. Olsion Huff measured my skull & discovered that my skull was small compared to other childran . Dr. Huff worked with childran with devlopemental delays , hand eye cordination , he worked with kids who had brain tumors , as as kids with ADD& ADHD . I am ADD- part of my ADD was inattentive( short attention span) had a hard time understanding the concept of time such as ten minutes , I had an ever harder time understanding the concept of what zero ment . My other real big issue was the fact that I did not understand the concept of money - what was five , ten dollars , had a real hard time in elementry school with math , understanding number's division , multiply . @ the time when I was in school , they did not know a whole lot about ADD , there were several myths to the cause of ADD , such as food, what medication my mother took when she was pregnant with me ( which she did not) @ the time when I was diagnoised which was in 1986 , the Dr's didn't know alot about ADD , especially in girls - they knew a whole lot of information as far as boys & ADHD but the girls were a different story.

Now how did my diagnoises change my life ? - well to be honest with you my ADD did not change my life, until I was @ the age where I finally understood my own brain and how it worked , my strengths as well as my weaknesses . It took me until high school to finally blossom and understand my ADD brain , to understand my way of learning . The biggest thing that change my ADD was getting pregnant with my son , believe it or not the actual pregnancy in it's self actually helps certain areas of my brain that were weak to grow & mature . I guess you can say hormones along with just becomming a mom in general and everything that goes into being a mother actually helped retrain my brain in areas that were lacking - such as improved my attention span, I learned how to be more patient , don't get as easly frustrated as I did before I had my son , my ability to start and finish tasks greatly improved ect ect .

Well as a child I had no interest in playing with dolls , playing games like other non ADD kids . I was the type of kid that enjoyed pulling out my mom's pots & pans, playing in her make up , playing dress up in my mom's clothes. In school I was not all that social with all the other kids , I had a hard time being social with the opposit sex simply because I was not quite as mature as the other girls my age ( simply due to my ADD) Even as a teenager in high school , I was behind in the emotional maturity level for my age bracket , I didn't really have any friends and the friends I did have were weird . When it came to dating, I often had social problems in relationships with the opposit sex , simply because of my lack of emotinoal maturity for my age, once the guy got word of my ADD , they would quickly dump me because in their eyes I was not your typical normal girl .

What first tipped my mother off that I was ADD was when I was 5 yrs old and in kindergarden , if I did not understand what the teacher was teaching I or got left out because I didn't understand what was going on , I would either find something else to do or I would sleep . The other thing that tipped my mom off that something was different , was the fact that I had no desire to play with normal kid toys . As a teenager , I lacked the ability to keep myself out of social problems or problems with my peers , plus I had some weird friends , with the fact I didn't have many friends to begin with , not to menton the fact that I had problems the oposit sex.
