curious how things were going for you with the no- medication thing? I was diagnosed with ADD in the 8th grade and was given ritalin. I tried it several different ways that year (short term taking it twice a day and then one long acting once a day) and I hated it. Mostly because I felt I was the only one who had to take a pill to be normal; but also because I felt VERY Different!! Like a robot. But after stopping for years and entering the Drug scene of highschool I felt I wanted to try it out again. I definately did the best I ever did in school that semester but I ended up just ostly having fun with it and would double dose it and just skip school those days and ride the bus and get into long, interesting conversations with strangers. I eventually ran out and decided i better not get any more. That was the last time I was on meds and now I'm thirty. I have gone back and forth over being angry that I was told I had ADD and thinking it was just my parents fault to now thinking I am tired of trying so dang hard all the time but never ammounting to anything. I don't think I want to be on meds ever cause I really relate them to my drug use back then and I really want to just try to find different methods of coping. I just came across this site from recently being frustrated for the millionthed time about being a stay at home mom with the most foggiest brain in the world. My husband works really hard and I feel guilty that I'm not using this time to the fullest for our family. I feel like my brain just won't get into gear to fulfill anything. ...Curious as to what you have had luck with. (p.s. There is no way I could ever afford coaching, though it sounds great)
hey dude, how are u? i use cocaine and other drugs,i see it as a form of escapism blah blah, i receive sick pay for alcohol dependance, up and down constantly and im always getting into trouble with my freinds. i cant pay attention to counsilers and shrinks etc. and i was wondering if anyone knows a way i can get motivated and improve my social skills, i used to be overly confinendt but now im very withdrawn in a sense. i need to find a way to tackle my drug use alone, i know all i need to about the dangers of drug use etc but i just want to be creative and get a job and try to live a normal life. do you have any suggestions??
Hi Jake! How are you doing? It is FREEZING over here in Pittsburgh with below zero weather so I am hibernating this evening at home to eat pizza and watch some movies with my daughter. Do you watch the Steelers game? I hope that they kick butt this Sunday!
Yes, you have seen many movies! I did like Shaw Shank Redemption. The movie called A Beautiful Mind bothered me for some reason. Personally, I did not think that the actor had a beautiful mind. Oh well, just my own thought about him.
Winter is a good time to sit back and catch some good movies since the weather is cold and snowy. Have you had a lot of snow, lately? We have not had huge amounts of snow, just a few inches every now & then. However, I wouldn't mind a big snowstorm. My kids would enjoy playing out in the snow and having some fun having the day off from school!
. I have just been diagnosed at 59. I have a son who is 32 who after my diagnosis has finally found out his issue is ADD (inattentive type)... he has been treated for depression for years .. I had him to counselor's and dr's.. .. on and off during his school years.. etc.. etc a nightmare...
He has just in the last few months found this out and has been taking ritalin.. it's working very good for him. The med doc he is seeing is weaning him off the cymbalta.(anti depressant) . and he is now off that (only a few weeks) and is feeling good with the ritalin only right now.. but his doc says he will see how he feels at his next appt.... and maybe he won't need any anti depr anymore...maybe not.. but at least I believe they are now after so many years on the right track.
Ok.. so don't know if you can.. but I would get second opinion. I took 4 written tests and my family took written questionaire tests which asked them to rate the questions with me in mind i.e. Does she do xx etc.. .. b4 I was diagnosed. The same for my son -- you need to get to someone who has more experience with ADD and is up on the current information regarding adults and older children..
My counselor says that ADD is the issue and being depressed/overeating/drinking to excess.. etc.. is how people with ADD cope with the condition if they don't know they have it. Treating this underlying condition is the first step.. then if the other co-morbid conditions don't resolve after that then you treat that ... but some get the cart before the horse as it where and don't know this...
Good luck to you..
My son is a movie nut too..:o)
also just quick fyi.. My son's current counselor gave him a list of vitamins and an exercise perscription.. along with the Ritalin.. it's very important that you get everything working for you..
