Looking for aceptance

You know when you tell some one that you have a disabilities they look at you if you were contagious.

I want to tell everyone who reads this that they should not feel like that.
When you get Diagnosed with a disability you go through stages of grief.
Just like death.
the stages can be reduced to a minimum if you educate your self on what you have been diagnosed with.

This is the process of the cycle of SUCCESS.

Denial.... this is where you deny the adhd diagnosis.
Anger.........when you look… Continue

Hi Summscott! Thank you for adding me as your friend! I noticed on your profile that you are the Coordinator of the Long Beach CHADD as well as the the lead teacher in the new program called Parent 2 Parent. Tell me more about the new program and if it is available in every state or only CA. How do you manage your day to day life as an ADDer mom with a ADDer hubby and four ADDer kids, plus a total of six kids to take care of? You deserve a HUGE bronze medal as far as I am concerned! God must have provided you with extra special gifts and talents to use for His glory!

I truly need to get back into attending the CHADD meetings for adults. It would help me to locally have some network of friends to be able to talk to and socialize. None of my friends have ADHD so they usually do not understand what I am going through as an adult female or as a mother of three ADDer kids.

Do your children go to a public school? Do you mind sharing the ages of your kids and the types of education that they attend? My kids are 11, 14 and 18 years old. My son who is 18 should have graduated this past June, but due to his academic challenges in 3rd grade, I had switched schools and placed him into a private school. The private school was much more advanced than the public school. Therefore, I had my son repeat 3rd grade.

In the long run, it was a good choice for him because he was able to get caught up academically and by senior high school, he no longer needed an IEP for learning disabilities. The most amazing thing was that in senior high school, my son started attending an alternate school and he started receiving high honors. It truly boosted his self-esteem and it made a huge difference in his life!

My 14 year old was just diagnosed with inattentive ADD last December as well as learning disabilities. She did cyber school for the first time last year and she is going to continue cyber schooling in 9th grade. She has an IEP and receives accommodations, which has not been extremely helpful, but it is better than nothing.

My youngest daughter is 11 years old and she has been in the public school. She was diagnosed with ADHD and learning disabilities in first grade. She has an IEP and receives special education, too. Her academic needs are far greater than her older sister. Medication is usually necessary to keep her on task, help her concentrate and improve her memory.

My youngest wants to cyber school with her sister, but I think that this could be a serious mistake. I had met with the cyber school last week and discussed the possibility of my youngest child cyber schooling this Fall, but I was informed that they may not have any availabilities in "virtual" classes. The "virtual" classes provide real teachers and students who are linked to one another by wearing a headset, microphone to speak and hear as well as a laptop computer to learn what the teacher is teaching. This is exactly what my 14 year old does and it has worked out pretty good.

Due to the cyber school NOT having an opening for "virtual" classes, my daughter's only option would be to work on her own, instead of with a real live teacher. I absolutely oppose this choice and feel that it is NOT the appropriate learning environment for my daughter. Her special ed needs are far too intense and for her to succeed, she truly needs one on one contact with a special ed teacher to keep her on task and to supervise her.

This situation with my youngest is stressing me out. My daughter is having anxiety because she does not want to attend the local middle school this fall. She is unable to sleep at night, crying and anxious about her future. It is really wearing me out emotionally and I feel horrible about it.

I spoke with my psychiatrist and she agreed to see my daughter. I am planning on getting my daughter started in counseling to prepare her for the upcoming school year so she will be able to learn new coping skills. I sure could use some myself!

If you have any suggestions, feel free to share. Thanks a bunch and take care!

Hello Summscott,

Did you forget me ?

I'd like so much to ask you some questions about ADHD because I'm writing a book about it. If you don't have time enough, you just to tell me and I will understand...

Bye bye,

Véronique

Than you for your response. I now have another question for you :

How did you learn you had ADHD ? In wich circonstances ? In wich ways this diagnosis changed your life ?

I'm waiting your news with impatience !

Have a nice day,

Thanks for the offer to help educate my undergrad teachers on what they would need to know before they teach children with ADD/HD... I have just posted a blog that you might be able to help with. And I would still love a "Dear teacher" letter if you have the time.

Hi !

I think we misunderstood... I wanted to know :

How did you live your young years, as an ADDer child and teenager ? What problems/difficulties did you meet ?

In other words, I want to know more about your past life.

I hope I'm more precise.

I wait your news.

Hi there! Thanks for checking in on me! I've put the idea of starting my own group in my area on hold for right now. Things at work have really started picking up for me (in a good way), and I just don't have the time to devote to it right now. I am planning on attending the next meeting of the group that's closest to me, it's in early May. I figure I'll attend some meetings over the next few months, and then think about starting my own chapter closer to home. I'll definitely be in touch when I get that all in motion! Thanks so much for your offer!

Feel free to ask questions to me directly, no problem. I prefer meditation and writing in my journal. Really helps with stress, especially writing things out.
