Hi NIcole, thanks for responding to my post. I haven't been online because my husband got a job in Venezuala for five weeks and took my laptop. I have been going through withdrawal! During that same time, I also got a foster baby who is fourteen m...

Tere- I am new to this site, and this is my first reply to a discussion--I was touched by how similar both of our situations are, and I would like to know how things are going? It has been a month since you posted it-has there been any change for ...

Hi Gary, Congrats on all the good and fun stuff happening in your life. Something you said sparked my curiosity and I wondered if you would mind elaborating on it. You said a woman in your martial arts class has ADHD and learns differently, and I ...

Eileen, I just love how you hang it all out there for all of us to see. I know it must be painful and humiliating to have even sent those texts, but to share them with this forum in a spirit of complete openess is just really touching to me in so ...

Both of you raised excellent points, Dana and Sarah. Dana, I really think your question about whether or not I cleared this with my supervisors shed some light on why it turned out so badly. I did not do this and this is probably a considerable fa...

This is a great discussion. I am a therapist and work with many people with ADHD. I often disclose my ADHD diagnosis. The therapeutic rule of thumb that I go by when considering self disclosure is 'Why am I sharing this - is this for me or is the ...

Jeremy, I can sympathize that good therapists are hard to find. I have tried to be one of those good ones, and can only hope that I have succeeded more than I have failed. It is a big responsibility. My worst therapist story is when I went to a th...

Thanks for the concern, Steven Charles. It was definitely not a stellar moment in my professional life. Anyway, I would like to clarify that I wasn't let go from this job, but that after this discussion I realized that the job just wasn't a good "...

To be frank, both. I would say it is fairly difficult topic because as a patient we would be there to get help, not to hear about others problems. I think personally though it would be very helpful to hear since so far all of my therapists don't l...

That is absurd, and it may also have been illegal, you should speak to an attorney. Under the "Americans with Disabilities Act", they can't dismiss you from your job, solely because of ADD. What kind of reasons did they give you for not wanting yo...

tere added a discussion to the group ADDers in Counseling / Therapy
I recently ended a very brief episode of employment after disclosing to young adult patients (many of whom have ADHD) that I also have ADD.(I am a psychohtherapist) I did this because I totally GET what it is like to live with this since I have it...

For any ADDers who see a counselor or therapist (or have, in the past). Does your counselor or therapist understand your ADD and how it impacts your life?

I am glad your experience with disclosing your ADHD went well. I have always been open about having ADD and my most recent empolyment experience was no exception. Since I was counseling young adults in a residential setting, many of whom also have...

Profile Information

About me & Relation to ADHD or other condition?
I am a 40 year old female with inattentive ADD married to a spouse with ADHD, hyperactive type. Make that VERY hyperactive! Two children, ages 10 and 12. Daughter is hyperactive like her dad and our son is inattentive like myself. ADHD has made made marriage/parenting issues very exhausting and frustrating at times, but we are happy and close and work around the "issues" as well as can be expected.

Taking Stock at Midlife

Tomorrow is my 13th wedding anniversary and such milestones always put me in a pondering state of mind. Since my husband's and my own ADHD has weighed heavily on my mind of late, I grabbed a piece of paper and started making a list of things that our 13 year of married life has involved. It practically screams ADHD. Here it is:

Pets:29 total (not including flock of chickens)

Residences: 8 total, 3 of these are homes we owned, the rest rentals

States: 5 (Ohio, KY, Michigan, Arizona, Oregon)

V… Continue

Is Exercise the Magic Bullet

First of all, let me be totally honest and admit that I am a total couch potato. My ADD is mostly inattentive and I love to read, bake, and write and not much else. I can read or write for hours on end and not moving doesn't bother me at all. My husband, on the other hand, is a hardcore physical fitness fanatic who has spent the last 15 years telling me how much better all my symptoms (ADD and depression) would be if I were to exercise. My response has basically been "Bah Humbug". Well, due to r… Continue

My ADD Day So Far

It is 8:00 in the morning and I just got both kids off to school. Actually got up in time to make them bacon for breakfast, served with the goat milk that is so good for them (great protein for my little junior ADDers!). Last week, I started out strong and by the middle of the week was sleeping in and letting my husband get them ready for school and--surprise, surprise!--NO BREAKFAST. So, today I dragged my still-sleepy self out of bed and made the breakfast, helped locate lost items, wrote the… Continue

Thinking About Life

As I sit here alone in this house I will probably be losing in less than a year (due to pending bankruptcy/foreclosure), I begin to ponder all the other losses in my life due to ADHD. Because I couldn't manage to work and parent at the same time (absolutely CANNOT) multitask, we have been a one-income family for eleven years. In many ways, these years have been awesome and our family is close and happy as a result. However, now that I am in my early forties (just turned 41), I am beginning to re… Continue

Tere I really appreciate your comment along with your undersanding of what I have gone through . I appreciate you understanding how I can feel so tramatized by how DSS & court system treated me as a parent but also as an ADD parent . I really appreciate your compassion towards my situation as well your compassion to me as a person . I appreciate how you understand things from both sides of the fence but @ the same time I really appreciate you not judging me or criticizing .
