Childhood Ear Infections and ADHD: Why the link?

When we scan the literature for statistics on ADHD and search for early warning signs or tip-offs that a young child may be prone to the disorder, a few common trends seem to pop up again and again. One of these is the high rates of ADHD and attentional difficulties in kids suffering infection of the middle ear (Otitis Media) in early childhood.

During early childhood, the actual positioning of the ear canal is still adjusting, the pathway into the middle part of the ear is actually at a flatte… Continue

Ginkgo biloba for ADHD: A natural herbal treatment alternative?

A few weeks ago, I discussed the merits of ginseng for treating ADHD. What I did not mention is the fact that this special herb often works even better in tandem with another important "brain herb", Ginkgo biloba. It's benefits also extend beyond the nervous system, and the Ginkgo has been used to treat everythContinue

Why the Menstrual Cycle may Affect ADHD medication dosing levels

Do hormonal fluctuations result in variable ADHD medication dosage levels across the menstrual cycle?

We have investigated the impact of gender on ADHD in a number of earlier posts. We have covered topics such as:

Long Wave Infrared Imaging: A new detection method for ADHD?

Detecting ADHD using the long-wave infrared spectrum:

I always enjoy covering new breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment methods in the medical field. A new study just came out which may have a number of potential applications to aid in the diagnostic process of ADHD, which I believe is worth sharing. Called Long-Wave Infrared Imaging, this method utilizes the infrared spectrum to detect biological activity (namely bloodflow patterns) via the differences in radiation emit… Continue

ADHD and Seasonal Affective Disorder

ADHD and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Are they Linked?

Is it possible that ADHD is a seasonally fluctuating disorder? It sounds intriguing, but remember, for diagnostic purposes, classic ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsiveness and inattentive behaviors (beyond the normal range of age-appropriate behavior) must persist for a set period of time (the typical cutoff is 6 months for most cases). Neverthe… Continue

Hi there! I just wanted to mention that just because I may have a good grasp of ADHD does not mean that I have no challenges or obstacles with it. I am like most other adult ADDers and I do have moments of complete anxiety, overwhelming struggles and times when I feel that I have no control. However, I try my best to have a positive attitude, I try to keep up with educating myself with ADHD books and information and I do have very much faith that all will work out fine.

You seem to be extremely intelligent, educated and knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics. I am very long winded, too, so I do understand. There is nothing simple about me!

I need to read your blog about ADHD vs. Phenylketonuria: A possible misdiagnosis? I used to actually take phenylalanine for a few years because I read that it is suppose to help with attention, pain, depression and so forth. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 3/08 so I decided to see if it helped reduce pain. To make a long story short, I discontinued taking Phenylalanine about a month ago. I am unsure if it was helping or not.

I will have to check out your blogspot because I am on blogspot, too. I have a passion for writing articles, short stories and blogs.

Have a terrific weekend!

Welcome. Your blog does look like a wealth of info. I can't wait to spend a bit more time reading it. It was the first time I ever saw anything written about bed wetting, which I found interesting.
