The holiday season is usually a very exciting and busy time of the year, but for the ADDer it may feel totally insane! Individuals diagnosed with ADD/ADHD commonly experience a dramatic increase in the amount of stress, chaos, confusion, conflicts and frustrations during the holidays.
While a non-ADDer may consider the holiday season very fast paced or hectic, an individual diagnosed with ADD/ADHD will usually consider the holiday season a total NIGHTMARE! For an ADDer, the holiday season bring…

I am so excited to discover today that there is a brand new ADHD center located in Pittsburgh, PA! The therapist who first diagnosed me with ADHD over 11 years ago, has referred me to Dr. Oscar Buckstein who started the ADHD center in January 2009.
Dr. Buckstein is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Today, after being referred to Dr. Buckstein, I contacted him to gain more information about the ADHD center. The program for ADDer's includes b…

Having moved from Westchester, NY to Central NJ, I needed to find a new shrink - which I did through referral of people whose opinions I trusted.
Donna, MNS (My New Shrink) didn't know the 'old me' - who finished other people's sentences for them and constantly interrupted. Instead, she's met someone who she feels has strong OCD (without the rituals} and overtones of ADHD.
The two disorders have much in common, symptomatically, I've found: high degree of disorganization, a tendency towards per…

You will NOT believe what happened to me last night when I attempted to re-read a hysterical post that our friendly neighborhood ADDer Feller, Steve, wrote last December. While I was attempting to read and respond to this previous Christmas card blog and enjoying every minute of it, suddenly, I began to experience a series of interruptions, distractions and obstacles. OH NOOOOOO, A FULL BLOWN "ADDER MOMENT!"
That's right.....While reading about our ADDer Feller, Steve's, own "ADDer Moment" with…

I just read an article in the medical journal to which I subscribe that I thought would be of interest. Below are the main points:
- Attention is mediated by the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine.
- In patients with ADD these chemicals are present in reduced amounts.
- Exercise increases the amount of norepinephrine and dopamine as well as other neurochemicals.
- Muscles aren't the only things that grow with exercise. Over time, exercise improves the system that provides these neuro…

Hi everybody! My name is Penni and I'm looking for some advice/guidance/wisdom (or whatever else you may have to offer! LOL!) I was recently told that I likely have ADHD at the age of 43 (GULP!) and I was recently placed on Adderall XR 20 mg and it was just titrated up to 30 mg. The doctor (Psychiatrist) placed me on the long-lasting Adderall (Adderall XR) because I don't do a good job of remembering to take medications (unless it's in the morning). Before this, I'd already been diagnosed with r…

Hello all of you wonderful people who have tried to befriend me and get to know me over the past two years. I have been 'missing in action'. I'm Back!
For 2 years I steadily traveled back and forth from Vermont where I live, to Florida where my elderly, ill parents lived. I tried to run my therapy practice, my coaching business and my life while helping to take care of my parents. Unfortunately my writing suffered. Actually, because of the pain, I've been blocked most of those 2 years. Over a 2…

I have been in a lot of battles in my life, some were life threatening, some were tug of wars with myself for things I simply did not understand and some were just me trying to be confrontational with, well, me, myself and I.
ADHD can suck so bad that nothing else matters, it leads to a life of constant st…

I’ve been feeling trapped like a caged animal, pacing back and forth, anxious to get out but can’t. Even when I do get out, it doesn’t seem to be enough. It’s called Akathisia. It’s a listed side effect for Abilify. According to my medical dictionary, it’s a movement disorder characterized by a feeling of inner restlessness and a compelling need to be in constant motion. It’s even more annoying than the restlessness that I feel from having ADHD. I have stopped taking my Abilify for two weeks. I’…

For any individuals interested in alternative methods of treating ADD/ADHD, I recommend looking into magnetic therapy. In the book titled, "THE ADD ANSWER" by Dr. Frank Lawlis, there is helpful information in the 12th chapter explaining the magnetic concept and magnetic therapy for treating children and adults diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
According to Dr. Frank Lawlis, there is a successful pediatrician located in Harrisburg, PA who has done research on magnetic therapy for ADHD treatment in 28 chi…

Fellow members,
I am interested in what you think about two serious debates going on in the ADHD community.
The first opinion concerns medication. Some tend to believe that medication is the first and foremost answer to ADHD. Some believe ADHD medication is the last option and is too dangerous.
Per…

I have been unemployed from the food service industry since Feb 09. My ADHD was cited as one reason for my discharge. I applied for Vocational Rehabilitation services and was accepted as a client 5 months later. I was very excited because I have no resources for ADHD treatment and their goal is to secure a career suited to me. Yay me. Six weeks ago I had a half-hour conversation with a screener and a half day of college placement-like testing. I met with my VoRehab counselor and the screener thi…
