There is a very high rate of ADHD and symptoms of Depression or anxiety. I have seen the number as 80% of folks with ADHD also have what is known in medicine as a co-morbidity. I wrote a post about this on my blog.
What a year you have had!! 2010 is bound to be better. There is really good treatment for your diagnosis. I have a son with ADHD and depression who is doing fantastically well on Paxil and Vivanse.
I have a post on my blog regarding ADHD and co-morbidity (the awful medical name give…

Hi everybody! My name is Penni and I'm looking for some advice/guidance/wisdom (or whatever else you may have to offer! LOL!) I was recently told that I likely have ADHD at the age of 43 (GULP!) and I was recently placed on Adderall XR 20 mg and it was just titrated up to 30 mg. The doctor (Psychiatrist) placed me on the long-lasting Adderall (Adderall XR) because I don't do a good job of remembering to take medications (unless it's in the morning). Before this, I'd already been diagnosed with r…

I have been in a lot of battles in my life, some were life threatening, some were tug of wars with myself for things I simply did not understand and some were just me trying to be confrontational with, well, me, myself and I.
ADHD can suck so bad that nothing else matters, it leads to a life of constant st…

I have been unemployed from the food service industry since Feb 09. My ADHD was cited as one reason for my discharge. I applied for Vocational Rehabilitation services and was accepted as a client 5 months later. I was very excited because I have no resources for ADHD treatment and their goal is to secure a career suited to me. Yay me. Six weeks ago I had a half-hour conversation with a screener and a half day of college placement-like testing. I met with my VoRehab counselor and the screener thi…

I realize that I haven’t been around much for a while. Things have been a little crazy. As I’m sitting here writing this, I realize that I let things get a little out of hand. I didn’t exactly ask for help when I needed it the most. The semester that I was working on at college didn’t turn out the way that I planned. I ended up bombing badly. I think the thing that threw me the most was how quickly I lost my motivation. I didn’t exactly see it coming. Once the motivation started leaking profusel…

ADHD and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Are they Linked?
Is it possible that ADHD is a seasonally fluctuating disorder? It sounds intriguing, but remember, for diagnostic purposes, classic ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsiveness and inattentive behaviors (beyond the normal range of age-appropriate behavior) must persist for a set period of time (the typical cutoff is 6 months for most cases). Neverthe…

So for the first time in my life, I finished an entire academic semester with full academic supports. I have my digital voice recorder with indexing to help me with my notes in class, I have permission to take notes on my laptop, I have text-to-speech software to help me stay focused while reading, and I have software to help me with the process of planning and organizing things. I have a good quality headset to use with my speech recognition software when writing papers. I have access to an aca…

Before I start I thought I would just introduce myself. I am a special education teacher who now lectures/tutors at university trying to promote empathy and supportive practice in inclusive classrooms. That is, I am helping undergraduate general education teachers understand and develop strategies for supporting children with disabilities in their classroom.
I am just wondering what you would say if you heard a teacher say about a child with ADD/HD, depression and/or other behaviour difficultie…
