So, that Britney song is playing on the radio in my head...(yes, I'm again without my meds - that's a whole different story)...
So I broke up with my boyfriend last Monday. Typical ADD whirlwind relationship... I was a couple weeks out of my last relationship, the 4 year one... when I reconnected with someone I went to HS with. We didn't know each other really in school... but he asked me out, and we went out on a date... which was cool, and fun... and in SOOO typical ADD fashion, I invited him…

... how someone in the mental health medical profession can know so amazingly little about ADHD. After waiting over an hour to see my p-doc today for a meds checkup, I was shuffled over to the nurse-practictioner. First of all, I'm annoyed that I took off from work early to make this appointment, only to have to wait for over an hour. Then, as soon as they tell me this NP will see me instead, I think, "Great. Now I have to go through the whole story AGAIN." I'm not really sure why those drs make…

I recently had an experience that reminded me of how I always react when someone praises something I've done, and it makes me wonder if this is something that others have experienced as well...
My good friend was re-doing his website (he has a small startup company), and mentioned he was having trouble writing his bio for the site. (It's hard to write your own bio!) So, I told him to send me what he had... and yeah, it needed some work, lol! So I rewrote it, sent it to him... and he was over-th…

The strangest thing happened to me today.
I was talking to one of my friends at work, someone I'm fairly close to, but still... a coworker. I don't even remember how we got on the topic, but I wound up just saying, "Yeah, I've been so exhausted in the afternoons - I'm trying to stretch my meds because I'm going to run out before my next appointment, cause I missed the last one. " Mind you, I've never told him outright that I have ADHD, though I've hinted around at it, I guess, in a roundabout w…

...it pours.
And when it pours, my ADD is so difficult to manage. This last week or so has been intensly difficult. My family suffered an unimaginable tragedy a little over a week ago - my almost 12 year old nephew was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle and was killed instantly. In one instant, our lives changed. My brother and sister-in-law lost the light in their worlds, and my daughter lost her best friend - her cousin, who she was to have been spending the week with this week, fixin…

Hey there all my ADDers! I know, I know, I've been gone for what seems like *forever*... and I can't wait to fill everyone in on all the happenings in my life in the last few months!
First and foremost, I've decided not to pursue ADD coaching at this time. In trying to fit it in amongst all of the other obligations and bits of craziness that make up my life, I've decided that I simply don't have the time that I need to really devote to something as big and important as this. Perhaps once the ki…

Olivia or me? Today was the dreaded Report Card day. I got the phone call shortly after she got home... "Mom, I swear, I don't know what happened. You know I had an 87 in Language Arts not long ago... well, I don't know what happened but I got an 83." When I asked how she did in her other subjects, she told me that she got a low C in Math, but only because she was trying so hard in Language Arts this marking period. Oh, and a C too in Science Enrichment, which is an elective course that suppleme…

I've always rejected the idea that my ADHD manifests itself in risk-taking ways. I'm not one for jumping out of planes, or white water rafting, or speeding. The last way that I would describe myself is as an adrenaline junkie. (ok, maybe the LAST way would be as an organized clean freak hahahaha!)
After the week I had last week at work, I'm re-evaluating my conclusion. My boss was on vacation last week, and as usual, I was filling in for him. As usual, there was a major catastrophe the first da…

Suppose you have a seed, and you plant the seed in your backyard, because you want it to grow and bloom, so that you can enjoy the full bounty of its beauty.
Suppose after you plant the seed, there is a late frost.
Suppose after you plant the seed, you discover that it doesn't get enough sunshine.
Suppose after you plant the seed, it doesn't rain for weeks, so it doesn't get enough water.
Suppose after you plant the seed, you find out the soil is kind of sandy, not rich like your seed wants.…

Classic case of ADD - Dr. Hallowell and many others consider ADHD not to be a problem of attention deficit, but a problem of over-attention. I jumped on my page yesterday only to realize that for the first time probably EVER since joining here, I actually had NO recent activity!! Wow. So what's my deal? Did I lose attention for ADDer World? Of course not! No, I have had SO much going on lately that every time I sit down intending to write a blog post, I can't figure out what to write about - the…

My daughter has seen the same neurologist for her ADD medication management for about 4 or 5 years now. He's not the one that made the diagnosis, but we switched to him when our insurance changed. It always bothered me a little that he didn't seem to spend much time with her - sometimes we were literally in the office for 5 minutes. Long enough for him to say, How's school? weigh her, and write out a prescription.
I made the appointment for today because she told me that she's feeling like her…

Most companies have some sort of mission statement - a brief paragraph describing the company, its values and the mark it wishes to leave on the world. It's a powerful motivator - it helps everyone who comes in contact with the company to know exactly what the company stands for. It brings all the employees together with a common theme, a common goal, a common way of doing business.
Much the same way that a mission statement is a powerful tool for a company, so can a personal mission statement…

"Until we see what we are, we cannot take steps to become what we should be."
~Charlotte P. Gilman, feminist theorist, writer and lecturer
I found this quote to really resonate with me. It's been almost a year now since my diagnosis. So much has changed for me in the last year... I've learned that I'm not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy... and I've learned that it's possible to be Delivered from Distraction. Particularly striking to me is how medication therapy for ADHD is often compared…

I took the first step in achieving my dream of becoming an ADHD Coach this week. I started a basic Professional Coach program. It's an introduction to coaching, geared to provide a broad overview of coaching principles and techniques, and intended to give students a good foundation from which to build upon, should they decide to pursue coaching as a career, and move to getting certified. It's been a great experience so far.
I've learned alot about what coaching is, and what it isn't. I've learn…

"There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person."
~Anais Nin, novelist
[I've started to explain why I love this quote about 6 times now... and my brain is just not cooperating right now. I'm having a "word block".... so I'm just going to leave you all with the quote, and let you comment if you are inspired to do so ;) ]

Ok... not a field, 'cause this is indoor - but the Soccer Field sounded better than the Soccer Cafeteria/Auditorium/Gym Floor :D
Dang... that's got to be a record, digressed before I even started. Ahem... let's try again, shall we?
Some of you know that I am coaching my youngest daughter's indoor soccer team this winter. Some of you also know that I didn't exactly volunteer to be the head (and, as it turned out, ONLY) coach for the team. No matter, like a true ADDer, when asked, I said, "Of co…

Hi all,
First of all, let me say how heartwarming it is to see how much we, as a community, pull together to help one of our own. So many of you have contacted Bryan and I to see what we could do for Lizard, how we can help her, ways that you can reach out to her.
I've started a new group, Show Lizard Some Love. You'll find it under the Groups section. Please join, and leave your well wishes for Lizard there. You can leave messages, drawings, comics, prayers, poems... anything that you feel wi…

I came across the website for the homeopathic supplement ATTEND today, which is supposed to help treat ADHD symptoms naturally. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried it, and if so, did it work for you? Were there side effects? I'm always curious about whether natural supplements really work, or whether it's just a scam. Please share if you have any experience with it! Thanks!

...along comes a dose of reality to bring me back down to earth. Tonight Olivia hands me an assignment that she has. She has to interview me. The first question was easy... a couple of words to describe me. Off to a good start. Next question...
Describe one of your great accomplishments.
"One" of my great accomplishments? Ummmm... that would assume that I HAVE any great accomplishments, wouldn't it?
Let's skip that one, Liv. What's the next question?
Describe a second great accomplishment.…
