On Self-discipline vs. Changing Core Beliefs from the Inside Out. How I recovered from Addiction.

I so love this group! you all have inspired me so much that I've been writing like crazy. This post I wrote a few days ago has gotten a LOT of comments. A reader wrote to me and said
" I wish i had the self-discipline of you."


I was kinda stunned by that. Me???? Self-discipline??? If she only knew!!! So here's my response...

I have had issues with alchohol before and never really thought about it much til I started seeing my head doc! One day he said I had a drinking problem and it did not register until that night, then I was like mad at him and said he was full of it. My definition of a problem is like every night and cannot stop! Next time I saw him I told him he was full of it,, he asked me why I drink, how often I do, and how much! I am the type of drinker who would drink like once to 3 times a week, no biggy. When he told me how much in one time is acceptable I was like no way! I am a binge drinker apparently and now realize I was using it to self medicate and it was a problem, so if that is addiction, I fight myself to stay off that train and it is not easy. Medication management works to not want it, but the days I forget to take the night meds, I am in trouble! I also learned that my impulse control was not even in existence when I drank and I was not being a good example to the young ones. Drinking a lot would not make me sick, I would not sleep or only sleep a short time if I drink and god knows I cannot lose any sleep hours!

I think in order to not drink, I have to remind myself of why and what I was using the stuff for! STOP AND THINK is my motto now and I now know that my anxiety in public or socializing can be controlled other ways!
