I think these characteristics are just human, not specific to ADD or ADHD:

1. We tend to swallow what someone tells us, especially if it is in writing or on TV, without engaging in critical thinking.

2. We are susceptible to conspiracy theories.

3. We don't make a clear distinction between our opinion and a fact.

4. Once we have an opinion, we are unlikely to change it.

(We collect information  that supports it and dismiss anything that doesn't. Logic and facts carry very little weight )

Here are some of the recent postings that prompted this post:

1. ADD or ADHD medicines are "very" addicting.

(They may be if abused by snorting or injecting, and  more so for people who do not have ADD or ADHD.)

---are dangerous.

(false)

---- stifle our creativity.

(they can help us focus so that our creativity can be of some use.)

2. Physicians get paid for writing prescriptions.

(never seen or heard of an example of this)

3. We don't want to put "chemicals" into our bodies.  And therefore "natural" remedies are better than "manufactured ones.  Or we'll use no remedies at all.

(note: they are ALL chemicals.  The primary difference, among several, is that the "manufactured ones" are produced with some quality control and have been tested.  (that of course doesn't necessarily prove that they are safe or effective, just increases the odds.))

I have stated  over and over that the medications aren't needed by everyone, aren't tolerated by everyone, don't help everyone, help some of us and are miracles for some.
