I don't get here too often, but wanted to wish you a belated "Happy Thanksgiving". Hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday.

Thanks for the welcome, Dana!
I sometimes wonder if I am doing the right thing by trying to pursue the degree I am. I really need to get on student disability services. I have no idea why I am interested in biology, to be honest. I don't come from a particularly ambitious bunch, unless you count get rich quick schemes, haha.
In response to your question about my psychiatrist, he has been very open to working with me about my medication. He pretty well makes changes when I suggest themI am currently taking the generic adderall (amphetamine), 30 mg 2x daily. However, he has told me to use it as I see fit. He does encourage me to use it regularly, but he knows that I don't because I don't need to take it to focus on a lecture, especially because I get a lot more out of the work I do alone.
I can't imagine how frustrating that must be for you to not have a say in your medication when you don't feel like its working well. I would suggest finding another doctor if possible. If that is not an option, I can only tell you would I would do (so that I am not technically reccomending this). Personally, I would save the doses from any days I didn't need to take it, and then use them on days I had more to do. Of course, I always make sure not to intentionally exceed 60 mg a day, which I understand to be the "max" dose, and I have always done any of my personal increases in small increments. I generally start with half a dose, even when I was using 20 mg, and would work my way up. Whenever I hit that point where I don't feel comfortable with how much I am taking, or when can take a few days off, I usually take a "drug holiday." In doing so, even being prescribed 30 mg per dose, I can sometimes get by with 10-15 mg. Although I don't condone abuse, I do think careful modification can be beneficial as long as common sense is applied.
I hope this helps in some way or another. Thanks again for the welcome!
aw thank you so much DANA for your wonderful comments , Maggie is definately spoiled rotten she has been sleeping in our bed right under the covers just like a little baby - how ever Jeremy is ready for her to have her own bed , given the fact that she loves take up all the bed space lol lol - other than that she's a good girl , the only problem we have had is her chewing three pieces of our living room window blinds( which was because we left her in the house by herself forabour 2 1/2 3 hours which we believe was caused by an angxiety attack ( simply because she doesn't like to be left by her self ( which i can not blame her) we think her reasons for her angxiety is because some one just abandoned her . I will be honest Maggie is the best thing that has happended to me , she makes my heart smile which is something that has happended in a long time . To me she is true blessing from god!!!!
Thanks for the welcome! I was actually totally surprised when I was diagnosed last year at 29. Of course now I look back at my childhood and I go; "DUH!, how did anyone not see it!?" There were ooh so many signs.
I don't have any kids but after looking my other family members I've realized my dad is totally ADHD, my brother is probably ADD and I'm starting to think my mom is ADD also. (They unlucky and missed the fun H part!!) Hah, and I just realized one of my favorite aunts on my moms side probably is ADD also! Uh, and some people on my dads side are probably ADHD.. interesting.
Sadly, I'm the only one that has gotten diagnosed or will even admit that we are 'different'. So far anyway! I'm working on all of them slowly... :)
Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October.
I named the turkey Billy in honour of Billy Boyd who played Peregrin "Pippin" Took in Lord of the Rings. Think of a New York accent. After all, a turkey is a kind of boyd, isn't it?
Next year I think I'll call the bird Liona after the classical guitarist :)
Oh yes, and spaghetti squash too. Yum! And cranberry sauce.
I'm not sure how we got into the habit of her cooking the holiday suppers but it's fun to hang around the kitchen like she does with me.
One advantage of being Canadian is that we've already had our Thanksgiving. Turkey (this year we named ours Billy. As in Billy Boyd), bashed neeps, yams, and stuffing. Not to mention pumpkin pie. Mmmm.
Holidays are my favourite because my lovely wife does the cooking :)
Hey sweetie,
Any joy with the ribose?
How's your writing going?

Thanks for the welcome, Dana...actually I neglected to mention that I have ADD also...I bet you can only imagine the sheer chaos in our house at times. First, my son was diagnosed in 1999 when he was 9 (he's now 19). While we were reading books about ADD (for my son), my husband and I both (separately) thought to ourselves, "Hey this could be me". My husband was 33 at the time, I was 35. A few years later, my daughter was diagenosed when she was 10 (she is now 16).
At 1:32am on November 02, 2009, Pamela gave DANA a gift…
I am sending you this gift to you to to keep breast cancer awarness alive. Thia is to honor my best friend jacque who lost her 3 year battle with breast cNCER.
Thank you Dana for being so kind yes she was sick she had ms. But, she got congestive heart failure. So the two together what done her in. The funeral is thursday I have been very sad but, I know it will get better . But, it is to Raw right now.
Thank goodness for my (notsolittleanymore) brother Joey-He's been a tremendous help the past week helping me and the family! He really is my angel in disguise (he's bared his fangs a bit this week trying to deal with me, and my crazy all ADHD household, lol) and I couldn't have done it without him :)
Thank you for the sweet well-wishes Dana :)
Sorry it took so long to reply-today is my first unrestricted day, and I feel great. The laproscopic surgery went well and the healing process is well underway. It is NOTHING like I was expecting-then again the extremist in me always prepares for the worst, hopes for the best, and usually comes out on top...albeit the far left field, but hey...LOL
Anyway, thank you for thinking of me and having me as a friend; I now have two. Still trying to decide if Brian's request is a facilitator-courtesy thing like Tom from MySpace ;) (which btw took me TWO WEEKS TO FIGURE OUT when you sign up on myspace he is automatically added as a friend--two deleted accounts and fourteen days later I was relieved to find out I didn't have a stalker, and that I am a dweeb, lol).
Anyway-will be on more as I have 1 more week of Vacay left. Hope to chat soon!
Nicole
Getting ready to eat my last snack before surgery tomorrow to repair my torn rotator cuff and cyst....Feelin like some sunflower seeds for some reason!
Thanks for having me-will have a lot of time on my hands the next two weeks during my vaycay. Some vacation, LOL
Hi Dana! I promise I'll get some pix posted of my feline "fur babies" soon. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to download some music (I'm not the most computer savvy person around so this may take a little while....). I hope things are going well for you!!!
I should have checked my page first. Obviously we're thinking of each other :)
I'm feeling much better. It turned out to be H1N1, not a cold. I'm *so* trendy when I get sick.
I started with 1/2 tsp. three times a day and worked my way up to 2 tsp. twice a day. I tried each dosage adjustment for 3-4 days at a time. Don't obsess too much about dosage. It's a sugar so it's not like you can OD on it.
I mix the 2 tsp of ribose in a glass of Gatorade because I happen to like Gatorade. You could use some other juice if you like or maybe milk. If you want to avoid extra carbs make lemonade with Splenda. I think that the aftertaste would come through if you used just water.
I thought that I felt better after a day but that might have been some wishful thinking. The effect is kind of odd. When I had the flu I still had to do a lot of walking for work. Normally my legs would have been tired and achy but with the ribose they worked like pistons all day with lots of energy -- but I still felt like I had the flu. So don't expect to suddenly feel like you are 10 years old again, assuming that you felt 10 years old when you were 10 years old :)
I have no idea how fibromyalgia will respond to the ribose. It may take a while to feel better and, of course, you may need a bigger dose than I use. Or a smaller one. Experiment and let me know how it goes.

We found out my husband had ADHD and NVLD when he was 40, 12 years after we married!
