Wow Rory read your profile & absolutely love it , I feel the same way I knew that I was ADD from an early age but was thankful that I had a wonderful & patient mother who was always there for me and told me that I could anything when I put my mind to it . Like you I do not look @ my ADD as a disorder but I look @ it as god made me different for a reason .
I read your profile with a lot of interest and I will say you why. I'm a French author who has ADHD herself and who's writing a book about the good sides of ADHD. Particularly, I'm searching testimonies of people who can see the positive traits of it in their life. In reading your profile, I told to myself that you could be a good person to talk about it. So, if you are interested to share your experience with my future readers, please contact me to my personal address :

P.S. : I'm able to translate your comments from English to French
Hi Rory! I started a new group here on ADDer World, Coaching Corner. I'd love for you to join. For coaches and other professionals, it's an opportunity to interact with the members here, advertise your services, and be listed in the new Coaching Directory. If you'd like to be listed, please send me the information you'd like displayed. Please feel free to add discussions to the group with whatever resources you'd like to share. Hope to see you there!
Hey,
I just noticed that you're from Mass - I grew up till I was 16 in Springfield. Where's Wilmington at? After that I moved to Rhode Island till i was 25. Then I was in Cajun country - S Louisiana and now I'm in Mobile Alabama...Lots of culture shock...lol.
Hi Rory,
I'm glad to connect with you as well. this is a great forum. I guess my passion is that people feel good about themselves - low self esteem and self worth is crippling. I've worked with lots of women's groups in churches mostly and it's amazing that most people don't seem to accept or like themselves much - let alone love themselves. To appreciate your own unique self helps someone to see and develop their gifts and talents -- so that they can shine instead of just float through life and exist. All people have gifts and wonderful traits about them and they all have something to contribute to the world - But they have to know that in order to make their special contribution.
My other passions are safety issues - I've written a lot on this, too on eHow.com (look for Sheila Wilkinson) and living well but cheaply...lol. We all need that now.
God bless Rory - hope to keep in touch.
Hi Rory,
I'm fairly new here but I loved what you want to do with your life. Healing relationships between kids and parents is such an important and needed thing. I hope that God opens every door for you to make a huge impact -with this goal in mind I'm sure that He will.
I was always made to feel stupid - even though I could read at two...go figure. I later was tested and had a way high IQ but it still took years to stop feeling dumb. My learning style is definitely audio. I couldn't pay attention when I read very well - I was a talker and fidgeter and toe tapper and hummer...the kid that drove teachers to distraction...but if I had had the diagnosis and the right approach in learning I wouldn't have been so bored and quite so easily distracted. It is so important to allow kids to learn in their best way - which means that first they have to determine what that is for each child.
I did well in college in 74 - graduated with an AA with honors. In 2003, I was back in college - I got diagnosed, learning style was identified, and I graduated Summa cum laude. It did so much to my self esteem to succeed like that. It was just a different atmosphere - not cookie cutter education - and the tools (self knowledge) to succeed.
Said all that to say this - your ideas about kids and learning are on target and they can change a child's life. To feel less than inhibits everything kids and adults do all of their lives. To feel unique and capable of learning the best way you can also affects your whole life but in a much more positive way.
God bless!
Getting ready for bed actually, but I hate going to sleep, there's always more I want to do. It can be difficult to shut my brain down for the night... it's always going, going, going - what else can I do, what have I forgotten, ? etc...
Hey Rory, thanks for coming over and joining us! I very much like the tone of your blog. Welcome to ADDer World! Hope you share your thoughts over here too.
Bryan
