Oh,

Hey Dana!
Thanks for your response. I see you offer us adders alot of encouragement and advice. Glad to hear from you anytime and to exchange any tips, advice, or just exchange experiences. Its really great for me to connect with fellow adders cuz where I live there no support groups available and very few people have even heard of ADD. I always get the response, "What the heck is that?" Needless to say, I'm at a complete loss how to explain or describe to anyone what it is.

Hi Dana,

My kids are 9 and 7. My 9 year old son is on the 504plan implemented last year in 3rd grade. He was diagnosed with ADHD in 2nd grade. He is very bright and has been able to succeed in shcool with support from the teachers. He also has some defiance which started last year. That has been the toughest thing for us as a family to deal with it when it does happen. I just ordered the Total Transformation program by James Lehman and started it this morning!
My 7 year old daughter, diagnosed with ADHD last year in second grade, does have an IEP because of issues with mixed/cross dominance. That has created problems for her with reading and writing even though she is also very bright (IQ tested high average/superior on some tests)
We do not have either of our children on medication and are trying everything else first (went the chiropractic route a year ago with our son and we really did feel it helped him a little, but that is on hold right now for the summer due to insurance changing)
Well that's the short story. We take life one day at a time. Thanks for sending me a message!!

Hi Dana,

Check out emofree.com for more information. You can also find tons of videos on youtube. I am not sure where you live but maybe there are groups around. I live in San Francisco, so there are alot of alternative stuff going on.

EFT has really helped me address my anger from the past and now it is a way for me to reground when I can identify my feelings and physical sensations before I lash out or get really tight and closed physically and mentally. I'm practicing so its not perfect, but then that in itself is a big lesson for me. Always beat myself up when I screwed up. Now I am trying slowly to be nice to myself.

Hi Dana, thanks for the welcome! Sounds like we have a lot in common :-). My 9-year-old hasn't been officially diagnosed as ADD, but she has the same characteristics as my husband and me (goes to brush her teeth and ends up washing her hands instead, forgets where she puts things, etc.). Our 5-year-old daughter is adopted and she is the only one who seems to have it together in our house! I haven't had a chance to look around this site much, but I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Dana, Thanks for the note. I like reading your blogs--even if you are a steelers fan-- ha ha :) with 3 adhd children you must be a very busy mommy!

thank you for the welcome note. I also have a child, daughter that was diagnosed with ADHD (she is a "ring of fire") at an early age, I also read everything that I could get my hands on to understand her. Even though I knew of the "symptoms" I had from my mother's description - I never put myself in the catagory. It was when my husband filed for divorce and I had sought out help for a bout of depression that I got diagnosed. I was in the office with the counselor for 15 minutes and she had asked if I had ever had my ADD evaluated! Eventually my husband came into counseling with me and we are working on things. And things are getting better, but it is a very s l o w process. But now the bigger challenge is getting him to see that he is ADD also!

Hey, Dana...thanks for the "Hello". I haven't been around here too much lately...never enough time in the day it seems. I do wish I could comment and contribute more, but I'm just too beat by the end of the night. Hee Hee.

How are you and your family doing? It sounds like you had a fun visit with your dad. Didn't you tell me he lives in Michigan? I can't remember, but I don't think he's too far from me. Please let me know if you ever come this way.

Our summer has actually been a bust this year:( My hubby has been laid off for most of the past 6 months and I've been trying to make it up with working more. It seems like the summer has just flown by so fast. Josh has been complaining we really didn't do anything and I feel bad. But hey, life is tough. We're blessed in many other ways.

I'm getting ready to start our second year of homeschooling. I just received the last of Josh's books in the mail yesterday. I'm trying to pump myself up for the new year. I feel a little better that I've got one year under my belt. I do wish I felt he was ready to go back to school, but he's just not there yet. My prayer is that we can transition into high school after this year without too much anxiety. I've just put it all in Gods hands. If I didn't I'd be nuts.

I do not have a Facebook page. I can barely keep up with the forums I belong too. But hey...let's be friends anyway! Hee Hee.

Well, I hope your having a good night. I need to catch up on what's going on around here. Talk to you soon:)

I also had the same light bulb moment. The job hopping, erratic behavior, same academic struggles all made perfect sense to me once I realized & I stopped berating myself for it. Making my mom understand has been another thing. Can't get her to do any research & she's a pro at doing research. When I was done reading Bryan's 'A Memoir' I left it by the chair she sits in hoping she'll be intrigued enough by the title & read it.

Hey Dana: Thanks so much for your kind words. The story of my own you-turn is on the press release page of www.makeayou-turn.com. It is a great story, if I do say so myself, and a testiment to volunteering in the community.

Have a great weekend....be well. Dr. Nancy

Hi, sorry I took so long to write back. My sister April was 40. She always wanted to go skydiving and thats what she wanted to do when she turned 40. She had a "bad landing" and we never got to tell her goodbye. She left 2 girls, 13 and 9. Thank you for the prayers. I know that I have not dealt with this yet. I needed to go find a new dr before this and I know I really need to now but I hate findng a new one. It is such a pain. I wish God would just write the name of the right one for me on my bedroom wall one morning!

Dana, thank you for your kind welcome. It is nice to be amongst kindred spirits. I have just started working again after being a stay-at-home mom for 11 years and am finding my ADD is a real challenge in the work environment. I am so glad to have found this site for information and connection to others who struggle with this diagnosis.
