And after reading your profile, you sure put MY Life into perspective. Been avoiding some responsibilities that require me to eat humble pie, bite the bullet, DO WHAT I DON'T WANT TO DO (wah) and your open-frank- put-it-out-there style just gave me the kick in the ass I 've been needing.
Reminded me what I needed to be reminded. Thank you. Also, nice to see someone ELSE with the nickname one of my sisters so fondly calls ME. Got her back though, introduced HER with it in front of a class we were doing together, that was fun!
On a more serious note:
My next door neighbor's adult son went through a similar brain cancer, golf-ball sized tumor in his head, incision healing problems, etc-went to Duke and all is well a year later. I take it you are in the Northwest, I (and Duke) in the Southeast-opposite quadrants. Duke is not a practical option at this point.
If you give me 'permission', I will ask my neighbor for information and contacts at Duke to look into whatever programs they have that could apply to you-sponsors,grants, philanthropists, etc.
I bet there are alot, but it takes time to uncover and you are already doing YOUR part, this is something I can do from here. Also, my sister is a Health /Lifestyle consultant who works with/advocates with top health centers and doctors from around the world. She is also a cancer survivor and mother of 6. Worth a discussion with her, I promise you...
I bet there are others on this site who KNOW people who know people that could short cut this whole process, get you going on a quicker, effective, legitimate track, if you are open to looking into to it. I am constantly amazed at what is out there that we, the general public don't know about until either we're in a crisis or it's too late. Also amazing: the power of Networking and we are in the perfect time/place to use this power for the right reasons. Just gotta put it out there, ASK...
Anyone who is a parent, especially a single parent, with a beating heart 'gets it', no time to quibble. Your girls are beautiful (they obviously take after you) and you are keeping on with keeping on-with ALL of your 'jobs', in the face of all of your pain & struggles, making sure THEY keep on with theirs: the job of Growing Up into Good, Healthy, Contributing Adults.
To quote the ad nauseum quote of the 90's: It takes a village and yours extends nationwide and beyond, baby.
Of course, I am just stepping into your story that has been going on for some time and this is my immediate reaction (see what happens when you are the 1st thing I read when the adderal kicks in... we could collectively solve all the world's problems in about an hour), without any other information.
Just too hard to sit by and NOT feel compelled to do something, if it is ok with you.
Liza,
It’s good that you have been researching. Yes, Duke is well known in their treatment for brain cancer…but I am glad there is a center closer to you! I am also glad your daughter is seeing someone to help her deal with everything. I can’t imagine what you all are feeling. You are a rock, Liza. Your girls are very lucky to have you. You are open, but optimistic about the future…and that is what they need.
Oh my goodness, Liz!!! I HAVE MISSED YOU. Thanks for letting me know you are back. I am going to read your blog post right now so I can get updated on what has been going on since February.
Hello Lizard! What is new with you and your girls? Are they going to be finished with school soon? My two kids will be finished with school by June 5th, but my youngest has to go to school, until the 10th.
My highlight of my life is that I finally got a new car so I am thrilled! Nothing like independence!!!
Take care! Sending sunshine, laughter and joy your way!
Hi Liza! How are you and your beautiful girls doing?
I have some interesting news that I am excited about. I have an opportunity to write for a women's online magazine. The editor requested that I submit two samples of my writing. Last week, the editor said that she read my articles. I am guessing that she must have liked them because she asked me to write five articles for the magazine and submit them by this weekend. It is a paying position and I am thrilled about it!
I am hoping and praying that the editor likes my style of writing and that she publishes my five articles. Anything that she publishes, she will pay me for each article. My family and I need the extra income so we are excited about this!
I will keep you posted on whatever comes of this writing opportunity! I am continually praying for you and thinking of you, Liza.
Hi Lizard! I hope that you are doing well. Are you receiving radiation or did you finish all the treatments? How are your daughter's doing?
I started a fibromyalgia program that includes physical therapy, occupational therapy and psychology classes. I am learning all kinds of cool techniques to reduce the pain and to become more active. There is much exercise, walking and relaxation techniques involved. It is lots of work, but I know that it will help the quality of my life so I am pressing onward and I am going to keep on keeping on!
Let me know how you are doing when you have the time or feel up to it. You are in my thoughts and prayers!
Hey, LC...thinking about you a lot today. Praying that all is well. Getting warm here in Michigan and I'm seeing lots of people out on their motorcycles and I'm hoping you'll be able to ride like the wind soon! Sending my love and hugs always....Bugs.
All I can say is wow!!!! you must be the bravest person on this earth to go through what your going through & still be here . You know what they say , " if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger" By the way think your page is awsome and your kids are adorible , keep up the good additude sister & when you get down , just remember your still here so that means that god has a plann for you . So the next time I complain about something little , I'll stop myself and remember that things could be alot worse , I could very well be in your position . I hope you have a blessed evening - god bless you & your family !!!
Hi Lizard! How are you doing? What is new with you and your girls? I am hoping that you are feeling better and doing well!
Sending happy thoughts your way to brighten up your day!
Nope, multiple meds I'm afraid. Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Klonopin as well as Adderal. I am seriously thinking about getting rid of the adderal as I am afraid of what it could do to my heart. Will talk to my psych about it on the next visit--not sure what is available-Ritalin does not work for me.
Mmmm, more radiation. Just don't bite anyone. "Lizard man, Lizard man. Does whatever a Lizard can..."
Is chemo brain anything like mommy brain? Just curious.
I was so happy to find this place! It is easy to jump right in when you feel like you have others to relate to, which is not always easy ! Your right, I definately see some diversity here, I think its awesome! I see you are going through a lot in your life....I admire your courage and passion for life and wish you nothing but the best!
