Dear Bryan, Again, thanks for the note!! I am sorry to hear that about Sembach, but it is best to be used, rather than just sitting there. When I first got to the base on my birthday in 1977, I lived on the hill in the officer's quarters there. After a few months I moved to Mehlingen for a couple years. I got married over there, then moved to Winweiler further up north. I think the great brewery there was Bishhoffs....mmmm. Those were some fun days, for the most part. My job with Omni Air, flying the DC-10, took me in and out of Rhein Maine AB mainly (now closed as well). I got over there about once per month, but no longer... :-(. I miss Germany!!!
The gal I married over there and I were divorced in '98, and I remarried in 2000. My wife and her son (now my adopted son) both have ADD. Bottom line is that they were totally undiagnosed until this last year, and we are still learning so much about it. SO, I am suposedly normal, and they are the bright ones in the family (both of them have genius IQs). Your book was the most interesting that I have read in recent years, and is helping me to understand them. I am looking forward to participating in the blog when and where I can. Thanks!!
Well, off to walk my dog after a long day of flying here and there. Thanks again, please take care and God bless!!
Hi Bryan,
I'm writing about something that seems so obvious to me:
Why don't ADHD kids have a special program implemented in public schools like those for dyslexia -it's no less debilitating, but could be a program that covers various areas in addition to supplemental academics, including motivation, finding a fun exercise regimen & how it helps our brains work better, etc. I'm not speaking of a modification here and there - I mean working with a specialist in the same manner.
The answer must lie somewhere between funding & belief in the outcome - but surely that would be mitigated by the enormous success of such a policy.
Thanks, Bryan. My son is also with this group. I look forward to reading your book and going forward in my life. I'm so happy my son is seeking help and urges me to do the same. It's good to feel we are not alone.
Yes! My life is all making sense to me now! There has been so many times I have thought and said out loud, "What is wrong with me"? So, it is great to have an answer that explains it all. It is mostly exciting but a little sad too. But I can only move forward with positive expectancy for goodness to come as a result of the diagnosis and treatment. I have learned so much in the 3 months since I have learned of my diagnosis. I look forward to moving mountains with the goals I have for myself and my business. I love the focus and concentration that I now have and can't wait to see what I can accomplish next. Life is so good!
Yes, I have flown in and out of Ramstein alot. As I read your book, I wondered where you went to school in the K-Town area and where your Dad was stationed, where the pool hall was, etc. I was stationed at Sembach AB from '77-'81, then deployed to several times after that as well through '87. My last time to Europe was in 2004, when I was flying the DC-10. I love it, and still have friends in Germany and Switzerland.
Thank you for having the guts to write that book and staring ADHD in the eye. I appreciate you....
Dave
Thanks, Bryan--I'm 37 also and was diagnosed in Feb 09. My coach has been sooo helpful in answering those things that never made sense before in life. Hubbie is starting to see a real difference in my skills---cool! Lots of reading and learning...
Now my task is to learn to enjoy the social networking part without becoming overwhelmed...Thanks for sharing your passions in a way that helps others.

It's hard for me to make a long story short. -- Voodoo found that out the hard way -- my reply to her most recent commment to me was a bit long... to say the least. :-)
Basically, my lawyer kept bringing up my ADD as a scapegoat. My lawyer is well known for her "effectiveness" and basically has an ego. "It's gonna cost ya" I've heard before. Luckily she still has a likable, though very strong, personality. However, she definitely has a problem deviating from her own (perhaps "hyperfocused"???) path. She's "zip zip zip zip zip" and isn't able to reflect well on her own shortcomings -- that wouldn't be productive. In my unexpert, but life-experienced opinion, the woman has ADD but her personality and drive prevent it from becoming a professional hinderance. She admits to being easily bored (she often uses the phrase, "My eyes are glazing over.) I've had to repeat things to her more than once -- Three times I had to tell her that I had a new cell number. She doesn't hear a lot of things but she will blame it on the others lack of focus. I mentioned in my (very long) reply to Voodoo that I have finally gotten to a point in my life where I don't drown myself in regret. I another burden off my back is that I am now much more able to accept when I'm not going to "get through" to someone and focus on what's most important (in this case that an end is very near). Although I still plan on addressing some issues later with her, for now I need to focus on what I need to get done in order for everything to be finalized. In fact, thinking about it... I had to sort of treat her like student. I had to firmly stop her from going and on about what was wrong with my responses and say, "Just tell me exactly what you need... that's it... I'll do it."
Thank you Vyvanse!!!
Thanks brother, I’m doing ok I just haven’t landed anywhere yet so I just get online when I can. It’s awesome that Adderworld has grown so much and has such quality representatives from the community. Congrats on your new book that’s freaking tremendous!
Hi Bryan-Thanks for the welcome. I'm so glad I found you on Twitter and this site. I really enjoyed your pieces about "Is sex Important to ADHDer's" and "Love, Marriage, Cheating". They both addressed issues I've been wrestling with and were answers I'd been searching for. It was the 1st time in my entire life that I found out I'm really not alone-it's not just me! There are others in the world with this condition that think, feel, react and struggle like me. Thank you for that! I look forward to reading more of your work and learning more from the others here. Many thanks! -Anna
I just sent you an invite from Goodreads (I'm lifeischange there). It's a fun site for readers and authors where you can list books you've read or written, write or read reviews, etc. I started a group there for readers with ADD / ADHD.
Thanks, Bryan. I am happy to be amongst people who understand. My ADHD is fairly severe, and I remember that in school teachers would whisper..."well no we've tested her..." Meaning that well, gee she's not actually slow, so in parent teacher interviews they told my mother that I was lazy and unmotivated.Being the inattentive type certainly is harder to diagnose, because there are no hyperactive behaviors, or rarely any negative behaviors present. I knew when I was in my teens that I was ADHD, when I was younger, I knew I was different. I was finally diagnosed about four years ago.My doctor is happy for my input, and how I describe what it is like to be ADHD because his own daughter is ADHD as well.Too bad there is such a stigma with medications, I often hear parents saying they don't want their child on meds, yet if it was for some other kind of affliction they would think nothing of it.Sad.
Glad to be here.
Hmmm...shocked or expected? Well, after doing research, expected. Never had a clue before the last couple of years. Shocked, too, I guess! It's frustrating to feel like there were so many wasted, frustrating years...but, better late than never.
Bryan, can you please help me out? I can't get the spam comment post from Libby Lawrence off of my page. Also I want to put a song on and I can't figure it out. What is the best app or progarm for music? :)'
I wanted to tell you that I'm enjoying the site!
Thank You!
Bryan, thank you taking the time to welcome me. How do you make it without medication? My doctor is searching for the right kind of medicine for me. I need some suggestions in this matter I am getting very desparate.
Thank you Bryan. Actually I have already loaned the book to my son's life coach/counselor. We were talking about you on Friday. He has read most of the book and his words were "That book did something to me." He is using lessons learned to help others and says there will be so many helped by the pain you endured.
