Comment by Danielle Phillips on December 5, 2011 at 1:39pm I have to agree with MaryK. The young man on there said he is usually done with his Math pretty quickly and has free time in class. Most of us struggle to get the finish their homework. Even for my daughter who is only in the 1st grade. She has one worksheet with a little bit of writing a few math problems. She gets off task often and it takes her what feels to me is too long sometimes. What happens when she is older and the homework is more complicated and needs more time to complete. She is a great reader but I get the same thing said, "is not working up to her potential".
Comment by MaryK on November 4, 2011 at 7:56am Yes, sounds like a great book. However, Zach and his mom are not the average family with an ADD kid. It is a struggle every day for most of us even though we recognize the great attributes our kids have because of their ADD. Most schools are not conducive to ADD kids.
Parents need to see others who are struggling and how they can use this to battle it. My son has been tested at the university and his IQ is in the upper 10% of the population. However, his grades and schoolwork are average, he forgets to turn in assignments, etc. Teachers all say he "is not working up to his potential".
We are struggling right now as he says he just couldn't think about the formula (on a math test) and was thinking about other things. He made an F on that test, so now his math grade is failing. He knows the material, he just can't concentrate in class to show it.
