Thanks, Dana. The trick, as the shoes say, is to Just Do It. I've met all kinds of people who won't do anything, or think they can't do anything, because they've been taught to fear life and themselves. I know because I was one of them. I went w...

Those Pesky Bushels

It's weird how things turn out.

When I was a child I was interested in medicine. My mother suggested I become a doctor but I was terrified I'd lose my first patient. Of course I know now that it doesn't work that way but I never did become a doctor.

Instead I took first aid courses, joined Search and Rescue, got up to Advanced Wilderness First Aid, became and actor and now teach at the medical school. But I'm still not a doctor.

I also wanted to become a maths professor. Too bad I didn't have… Continue

Exercise and AD(H)D

I just read an article in the medical journal to which I subscribe that I thought would be of interest. Below are the main points:

- Attention is mediated by the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine.
- In patients with ADD these chemicals are present in reduced amounts.
- Exercise increases the amount of norepinephrine and dopamine as well as other neurochemicals.
- Muscles aren't the only things that grow with exercise. Over time, exercise improves the system that provides these neuro… Continue

Ribose, fatigue and fibromyalgia

Even thought I'm certain that I was 18 just last week, I've also noticed increased fatigue in recent months.

My doctor did some blood tests and couldn't find anything wrong so we assume that it's old age creeping up on me. On the other hand, I have a strange and whimsical biochemistry so I thought maybe there's something else going on.

I heard about ribose (AKA d-ribose) on a body building site and, as usual, the online reviews varied between "hoax", "inconclusive" and "works great."

Nothing… Continue

Acting, like I know what I'm doing

In my last posting I had just done an American accent workshop.

At the workshop one of my acting coaches asked if I belong to ACTRA yet. No, not enough film credits to join the union. Hmm, he said, we'll have to get you some speaking roles.

The next morning I got an e-mail from him for a casting call for an independent film called "Fart School." If you're like me your first thought was that this probably has all the intellectual content of Porky's, despite knowing that the local art college st… Continue

'Merkn, huh?

Last weekend I got to exercise my brain. Oi vey.

First, my voice coach was coming to town to do a workshop. I registered and sent off my cheque. After several E-mails to her Right Hand Man, Friday night rolled around and I still didn't know where the workshop was. So I called her. She panicked because the workshop had been cancelled and her assistant was supposed to contact everyone. Oh bother.

Now, my lovely wife and I were supposed to go camping with friends that weekend but since my coach i… Continue

Forgive me, Gary, for not being aware of Canada's Thanksgiving holiday. Do you mind sharing with me when Canada celebrates Thanksgiving Day? Also, why did Canada call it "Billy ?" (Sorry, I can not remember the rest of the name!)

High fives to you, Gary, for having your wife do all of the Thanksgiving cooking! I would have guessed that YOU were the lucky one, but that is because you are such an excellent cook and you appear to enjoy it! I am sure that your wife is just as wonderful at cooking as you are!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stuffing and the pumpkin pie with whipped cream the BEST! There is no holding me back this year, regardless of the strict diet I had been on! It is time to celebrate!

Hey Gary, I have been spending way too much time at American Greetings online checking out their Thanksgiving ecards! Oh, my gosh, they are hysterical! The one ecard is a singing turkey whose song is used from an old song called "Can't Touch This," but the words are changed to "Can't Stuff This!" LOL!

As far as the Ribose, I am not sure what I think? Crazy, huh? I am taking it faithfully, but I am honestly uncertain if it is making a difference in my health. However, keep in mind that the weather in PA is much colder now and it has a huge bearing on my fibromyalgia condition. (Warm weather is better for me!)

I do enjoy writing articles and blogs, but I have not seriously sent out any articles in a long time. It is a rather tough way to earn a living and to break into the writing industry. I lose interest quickly when I attempt to write a book. I have no idea how most ADDer's write books, stick with it, complete it and get it published? I would love to succeed at this someday, but right now, I am feeling rather distracted. (Gee, maybe my doctor should reconsider increasing my dosage of Adderall?)

Do you and your wife celebrate Thanksgiving? If so, where will you be celebrating Thanksgiving Day and what types of foods do you eat? This year, I volunteered to have Thanksgiving dinner at my house. Thankfully, my husband does help with the cooking and it is a huge help for me!

Hello Gary! What is new with you? Are you feeling much better and have you recovered from your bad cold?

I bought 2,000 mg. of D-Ribose powder. The directions on the bottle say to take 1-3 scoops of the powder before or after exercise, but it does not provide directions on how much water to mix with it. Do you mix water or juice with your D-Ribose powder? If so, how much?

Also, how many times per day do you use D-Ribose? How long do you think that it usually takes before I begin to feel a response from it?

Yep there's no class on Monday. It resumes as normal on Wednesday night. I was going to email you about that too!

I'm kinda glad - because now I'm going through my 'the temperature dropped too damn fast' cold of the fall. I hopefully should be over it by Wednesday.

Happy Thanksgiving by the way! *hugs* :D

Hi Gary! Your pasta recipe sounds delicious, except for one thing....I have been on a strict diet, which does not include pasta or many carbs!
I am a huge fan of breads, crackers, pasta and I miss them, but not the extra weight!

I checked in two local health stores today to purchase D-Ribose and I was shocked that neither sold them!
